Overview

The Lead Advanced Practice Nurse performs a dual role. Responsibilities include covering clinical shifts as well as overseeing APP operations inclusive of schedules, training, education, new hire recruiting, new hire orientation and performance. This role accounts for 20% of working hours in which responsibilities exceed that of what is described in the Nurse Practitioner job description.

APN with 8-10 years of experience, preferably with supervisor experience. Monday to Friday with occasional weekends as needed for coverage or mentoring and travel between both Raritan Bay and Old Bridge Medical Center campuses 

Responsibilities

Participants as an active member of the multidisciplinary team cooperating in the planning and development of patient care needs and program needs. Attends monthly department and division meetings. Participates in the daily multidisciplinary patient care team meetings and long stay rounds. 1. In addition to the competency description documented in the respective job description, the Lead oversees the practices and competencies of other APPs in the service. 2. Provides education to APPs in physical examination of patients, the management of critical care patients, all operative procedures, bedside procedures, the coordination of care following discharge of patients. 3. Develops and maintains APP schedules and PTO to ensure proper level of staffing for patient safety. 4. Meets with leadership on a regular basis and works on joint departmental initiatives and holds quarterly APP service meetings to discuss team initiatives. 5. Provides input for APP annual review. 6. Ensures team compliance with Medical Staff guidelines, medical staff renewals, yearly PPDs and mandatory annual education. 7. Assists in recruitment and facilitates the interviewing process for potential new staff members. 8. Facilitates the involvement of other APPs in research projects and quality improvement initiatives relating to improving patient satisfaction, patient safety, patient education and throughput. 9. Leads in evidence based standardization of care projects, and the development of evidence based medicine protocols. 10. Collaborates initiatives with other services. 11. Develops and maintains structured APP shadow programs to include gathering of resumes of interested candidates, overseeing year round programs to coincide with the current AAP recommendations needed for aspiring APPs to apply to an appropriate program. 12. Responsible for the oversight of and orientation of rotating students, shadows and new team members. 13. Develops and facilitates curriculum to rotating APP and medical students and develops rotation schedules. 14. Provides education discussion and material to rotating students. 15. Other duties and/or projects as assigned. 16. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: 1. Graduate of an accredited APN Program. 2. Minimum of 5 years in an advanced practitioner role Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: 1. Prior specialty-specific experience. Licenses and Certifications Required: 1. Advance Practice Nurse License or MLP - Nurse Practitioner. 2. AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification. 3. Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification. 4. DEA  Advanced Practice Nurse - DEA License. 5. Advanced Practice Nurse - CDS - APN License or CDS
