Early Careers Spotlight
Can you describe your academic background?
I am a senior at Penn State majoring in communications, looking to fulfill a career in recruiting.
What are some of your internship responsibilities?
As an intern in the TA division of HMH I was responsible for: posting jobs, reviewing resumes, statusing candidates, listening to phone screens and offer calls, and attending recruiting events. Being able to participate in all of these responsibilities allowed me to really understand what the role as a recruiter entailed. Not only did I gain great skills and knowledge on the roll but this internship allowed me to complete work that actually had an impact on the company and wasn’t just a project for leaders to see.
How was your experience interning at Hackensack Meridian Health?
My experience working for Hackensack Meridian Health has been an amazing one, I was able to connect with a whole division and the different vertices within this division, while still remaining in a virtual workspace. Touching on each vertical that HMH recruits for really opened my eyes to the diversity of jobs and roles that a recruiter sees in the healthcare field, as well as the different ways of filling the vast number of positions HMH offers.
How has interning at Hackensack Meridian Health helped advance your career so far?
This experience has helped to advance my career as I now carry valuable skills and knowledge in the field because I worked for a large company with such a high recruitment volume, which allows me to handle future positions that could involve a wide variety and volume of positions to recruit.
What are your career goals, or where do you see your career going in the future?
My goal is to stay in the field of recruiting and look to possibly pursue a career in agency recruitment, striving to reach the status of executive headhunting.
Can you describe your academic background?
As a nursing student, I started my higher education journey to capitalize on my passion for helping people and bettering my community. Clinical work did not fit me, and in my last year, I switched to a degree in Social Sciences/Administration and graduated with my B.A. in this field in 2022. Since then I have been pursuing my Master’s in Health Administration and completed this degree in May 2024.
How has your experience at Hackensack Meridian Health been?
My experience at Hackensack Meridian Health has been transformative, exciting, and validating. Within the first month of my tenure, I felt I had learned more than anything I could have learned in a classroom because of my exposure to real healthcare experiences and challenges I was trusted to handle. It has also allowed me to take the skills and theory I learned in the classroom, and apply them to real-world scenarios. Every day I get to use my experience from my time working clinically, and experience to forward the network's goals and contribute to providing quality and equitable healthcare to patients. My time at HMH has made me proud of my work, reassuring me that I chose the right path for myself.
What are some of your job responsibilities?
I currently work as an Associate Business Analyst. This role allows me to collaborate with healthcare's business and clinical sides while using data to improve processes. I currently work on projects in Data and Analytics using agile methodologies and managing the project’s scope, needs, and timeline. I use my background to translate clinical and business needs to a more technical team. I also facilitate a structure for data discovery and conceptualization meetings to support the development of data models, reporting approaches, dashboards, and performance. Bridging this gap is key to connecting information technology with the network's mission as we support HMH.
You were a summer intern in our Digital Technology Services team before joining Hackensack Meridian as a full-time team member. How did your internship prepare you for your current role?
My internship was my first introduction to information technology. Even though I had years of healthcare experience at this point I still needed to fully grasp how crucial and integrated information technology is to the functioning of healthcare delivery. Due to the nature of the internship program, I was able to connect 1:1 with senior leadership, ask them about their career paths, and gain some meaningful insights about the industry, and where healthcare is going. It also allowed me the chance to learn more about all aspects of the organization and how they relate to DTS. The structure of the internship program helped me to formulate a plan for my career and helped guide me toward the right people and the right place to position myself for success in my career. As an intern I was trusted to act independently and think critically and taught skills in project management, stakeholder management, running a meeting, public speaking, and corporate communication which are skills I use every day in my current role. By no means was it easy, but being given the space to make mistakes, and the support of the DTS staff, fostered growth and exponential improvement in my professional toolkit.
How has working at Hackensack Meridian Health helped advance your career so far?
As I’ve previously mentioned, leadership at HMH cares about improvement in ways I have never seen previously. I have access to learning modules which has allowed me to gain a Google certification in project management, and a professional coach to help refine my professional development. HMH has a culture that encourages learning and growth, and it is because of this that I feel comfortable taking on new challenges and developing new skills to continually improve myself and the network. While working for HMH the “story” of my career path has become clearer and clearer, as my passion for my work breaks through in everything I accomplish.
What are your career goals, or where do you see your career going in the future?
Over the last year, a professional skill I’ve been continually developing is strategic thinking. Understanding where the industry is going in the short and long term, and translating those trends into goals for the network. It is because of this that the field of change management is a place where I see myself providing value. Change is scary, and in a place that values innovation as much as HMH, it can happen quickly. Good change managers can foster buy-in, assuage anxiety, and help people get to a place where they feel comfortable providing the highest standard of care. I want to be in a place where I can help implement change, and analyze its impact. I’m thankful that I work in a place where my strengths align greatly with the mission of the network, allowing me to be my best and do my best.
Can you describe your academic background?
I graduated from Rutgers University and received my Master’s in Healthcare Administration.

What are some of your current job responsibilities?
Currently, I am an Administrative Fellow at Hackensack Meridian Health. As a fellow I have the opportunity to rotate through healthcare sectors of my choice. I dove into Ambulatory and Joint Ventures, Hospital Operations, and Patient Safety & Quality. A few of my responsibilities include being able to collaborate with senior leadership and coordinate with various departments to ensure smooth optimization of daily functions, conduct a variety of analyses on industry trends, workflows, identify areas for improvements, and recommend strategic enhancements. I also work on several projects to enhance patient care, satisfaction, quality of care and overall operational effectiveness.

It has provided me with hands-on experience in healthcare administration, opportunities to network with industry professionals and exposure to strategic initiatives within the organization. My experiences at HMH have helped me develop key skills and knowledge that are directly applicable to my future career goals in healthcare administration.
What are your career goals, or where do you see your career going in the future?
In the future I hope to become a successful and influential healthcare leader focusing on bridging the gaps in our healthcare system. I aspire to be a catalyst for change by implementing strategies and initiatives promoting collaboration, efficiency, and accessibility in healthcare delivery.
Can you describe your academic background?
I did my initial undergraduate studies at New York University and graduated with a BA in Music. Then recently I went back to school in order to receive an AAS in Nursing from Ocean County College.
What is your current role, and what are some of your job responsibilities?
Currently, I am a Registered Nurse in the Nurse Residency Program at Ocean Medical Center. My unit, 5-West, specializes in the care of cardiac patients and serves as a step-down unit for surgical and CCU patients. Though I am still orienting, it’s my responsibility to coordinate care and communication within a multi-disciplinary team for the patients I am assigned to. As a resident, it’s also my responsibility to become involved with unit, site, and network-based councils to learn and provide the insight of how my experience may impact patient outcomes.
How has your experience at Hackensack Meridian Health been?
My journey started as a Graduate Nurse in the NSPIRE program before taking my nursing boards. I have had an overwhelmingly positive experience with Hackensack Meridian Health. Especially at Ocean Medical Center, everyone I have come in contact with has been positive, supportive, and encouraging. As I prepared to take my NCLEX, I received support and tips from every department I worked with. As a practicing nurse, I’ve experienced an overwhelming amount of support as well as a decided focus on the advancement of my clinical knowledge. I have felt welcomed no matter what my role has been.
How has working at Hackensack Meridian Health helped advance your career so far?
As a member of the NSPIRE program, I had the opportunity to shadow within most of the departments working within the hospital. The NSPIRE program helped fill in the gaps of my knowledge as an individual who had no previous experience within healthcare. My immersions allowed me to see the big picture and understand the trajectory of the patient’s experience from admission to discharge. As I transitioned to practice, the connections I made with individuals in different departments allowed me to feel less overwhelmed and more informed on the resources available to the patient as well as to me as the RN. I had a more expansive base of knowledge and was better equipped to accept the responsibilities expected of me when it came to providing patient specific care. Above all else, the days I spent shadowing within the NSPIRE program helped me feel connected and informed within my own site as well as with the mission of the network as a whole.
What are your career goals, or where do you see your career going in the future?
It’s hard to say exactly where I see myself going; the field of medicine is ever-changing based on evolving evidence-based practice. I know there are certain aspects that drive my work: an interest in public health and a desire to improve care for our most disadvantaged patient populations. I hope to improve access and delivery of healthcare for all individuals within my community. I’m not sure what form that will take, but I’m confident the resources and education available within the HMH network will provide the best opportunity to make an impact.
