Overview
The Supervisor, VAD and Mechanical Circulatory Support Program is designated to lead the development, implementation, and management of the VAD and Circulatory patient population for inpatient and outpatient clinical setting. This role includes managing the regulatory requirements of the VAD DSC, clinical competency requirements, on call coverage and strategic program growth. Responsibilities include oversight for daily operations of the mechanical circulatory support program and clinical team supporting the program.
Prior experience with LVAD and Mechanical Circulatory Support required.
Responsibilities
1. Oversee coordination of education for the VAD and pVAD service line for nursing and physician coverage. 2. Create and oversee transitions of care outpatient heart failure clinic. 3. Oversee heart failure and device clinic operations. 4. Provide strategic planning, business development and marketing for the heart failure device clinic and mechanical circulatory support programs. 5. Responsibilities include VAD Program management and oversight of the VAD RN coordinator and pVAD APN. 6. Oversees the care of the high risk ventricular assist device (VAD) patient across the continuum (acute care inpatient, clinic follow ups, community setting) in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. 7. Provides clinical guidance and leadership through participation and/or representation at unit, departmental and hospital meetings, committees, councils, task forces and multidisciplinary rounds, as needed. 8. Participates in strategic planning and development of the mechanical circulatory support program in alignment with long term development goals of the Heart and Vascular Hospital. 9. Meets regularly with finance department to ensure correct reimbursement and budget adherence. 10. Guides the multidisciplinary team to maintain Joint Commission Disease Specific Care certification for Destination Therapy Ventricular Assist Devices. 11. Oversees quality reports from the site entries within the INTERMACS Ventricular Assist Device national registry and the cVAD registry. 12. Creates/reviews Quality and Data reports for morbidity and mortality of patients requiring mechanical circulatory support including length of stay, readmission rates and causations, and adverse events rates. 13. Monitors for device recalls pertaining to heart failure device equipment and creates response plan to address improvement. 14. Works in conjunction with facility leaders to develop program specific guidelines and reviews annually for areas of improvement. 15. Provides clinical leadership, expertise, collaboration, consultation and mentorship to promote evidence based nursing practice in the care of the VAD patient. 16. Supports organizational goals and works with the Chairman/Medical Director(s)/Collaborative Practice Physician(s)/ Service Administration to achieve optimal standards of care with measurable identified outcomes. 17. Accountable for the development and process of writing/revising and updating policies and procedures and developing, implementing and evaluating new procedures. 18. Develops and meets departmental and individual goals and objectives that support the organizational strategic objectives. 19. Promotes and encourages educational opportunities for professional and ancillary staff. Provides for education opportunities to meet the PI needs of the department. 20. Identifies interdisciplinary concerns/problems/issues and appropriately and successfully addresses them in a timely manner. 21. Maintains knowledge of and maintains compliance with reimbursement regulations and ensures optimal reimbursement. Accountable for the day to day operational performance of areas of responsibility. 22. Delegates, supports, facilitates activities and supports medical and management staff. 23. Works with the VAD medical director to develop order sets, quality improvements and addresses areas of concern. 24. Create strategies for building volumes within the service line. Mechanical Circulatory Support Essential Job Functions: 1. This position supervises a group of clinically complex or resource intensive patients. 2. Supervision includes assessing, diagnosing, planning, and prescribing pharmacological (in a collaborative practice) and non-pharmacological treatment for health problems according to established protocols, standards of care, health promotion, and preventive care within a specialized area of practice. 3. Performs the role of advanced practice nurse through clinical practice, education, research and consultation with multidisciplinary groups utilizing a holistic approach to wellness. 4. Demonstrates advanced assessment skills, within clinical specialty, providing evidence-based treatment interventions, to achieve positive outcomes for patients and families. 5. Participates in the evaluation and screening of patients for ventricular support in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team. Provides psychosocial and emotional support to patient and family; 6. Develops educational resource materials independently and in collaboration with other health care providers. Functions as a mentor, educational resource and consultant for staff providing clinical expertise. Serves as a resource and support person for ventricular assist device patients and their family members both in the acute care setting and in the community. 7. Works in conjunction with Nursing and Departmental Education to ensure clinical competency for all staff caring for mechanical circulatory support 8. Participates in the development and recommendation of evidence-based practice identifying the goal and desired measurable outcomes, which may include clinical, financial, process/system and patient/family satisfaction.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: 1. Graduate of an NLN/AACN accredited program in nursing. 2. Maintains clinical competencies through participating in continuing educational programs (contact hours per years), and clinical practice as mandated by Board of Nursing and national certification body. 3. Critical care and VAD patient management experience >5 years. 4. Experience in relevant patient care setting or as regulations dictate. 5.
Prior experience with LVAD and Mechanical Circulatory Support required.
Licenses and Certifications Required: 1. NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License. 2. AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification. 3. Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification. 4. NJ Certified Advanced Nurse Practitioner. 5. Maintains National or Board Certification as appropriate in area of specialty. 6. Collaborative agreement with physician(s) actively on staff who agree to act as the Collaborating Physician(s) of Record as per the APN Act and Regulations.
Compensation
Minimum rate of $153,732.80 Annually

Budget and Grant Funding: Departmental budgets and any grant funding associated with the job position may impact the pay that can be offered. Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
