Our Maternal Child Services team is responsible for the 36 bed Labor and Delivery, Mother/Baby, and High Risk Antepartum areas, 7 bed triage, and 2 Operating Rooms. We are also designated a Baby Friendly Institution. 

The Supervisor, Nursing Professional Development (NPD)  serves as the educational nursing lead for the orientation, onboarding, and transition process. A nurse leader who serves in the role of a practitioner, educator, leader, researcher, and consultant. As a knowledgeable practitioner, the Supervisor, NPD demonstrates positive behavior and the ability to perform ongoing clinical assessment of the patient, serve as a resource, and assist in establishing and implementing a plan of care and evaluating the outcome of that care, utilizing the nursing process. As an educator, the Supervisor, NPD demonstrates behavior which includes assessing the orientation and educational needs of all levels of nursing team members, establishing and implementing educational plans, evaluating orientation and educational progress and  outcomes and making recommendations for successful orientation, onboarding and  transition. As a leader, the Supervisor, NPD is responsible for ensuring that the mission, vision, and values of the HMH System are integrated with all aspects of the orientation and nursing professional development structures and processes. As a researcher, the  Supervisor, NPD utilizes the research process to promote quality patient care and applies evidence-based practices related to nursing professional development, orientation, and education. As a consultant, the Supervisor, NPD collaborates and partners with nursing team members and leaders to maximize the effectiveness of all aspects of the nursing professional development enterprise.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions

  1. Create, plan, and lead the implementation of the organization’s orientation, onboarding and transition programs
  2. In collaboration with the network and site education and unit nursing leaders, manages the assignment and completion of all orientation, onboarding, and transition requirements. Communicate promptly any concerns and partner with nurse leaders on the resolution.
  3. Assists in the creation and implementation of continuing education and annual competency.
  4. Contributes to the evaluation of orientation/onboarding/transition progress of team members at three-month or at the end of the orientation period.
  5. Functions as an expert clinical resource in assisting team members in new or complex patient care assessment,  interventions and evaluations
  6. Promotes safe and efficient clinical practice, including the accurate administration of medications according to the Ten Rights and Four Checks of  Medication Administration.
  7. Facilitates positive communications.  May participate and lead unit huddles and leader rounding with team members.
  8. Resolves conflicts and facilitates constructive resolutions and positive outcomes if possible.
  9. Participates with and models the importance of team member recognition.
  10. Models cultural competence, social justice and fairness, and capitalizes on generational diversity to foster highly effective work groups.
  11. Where applicable and necessary, escalates nursing labor/management issues.
  12. Identifies areas requiring clinical study for performance improvements and participates as needed. 
  13. Influences the activities of an individual or group toward goal setting and achievement by serving as a role model.   
  14. Assists, as appropriate, with unit-based performance improvement monitoring, trending and reporting. May lead or participate in quality improvement projects.
  15. May participate in root cause analysis investigations. 
  16. Accepts referrals from all units of the hospital and collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other members of the health care team in addressing educational needs and practice gaps. 
  17. Participates in the recruitment and retention of nurses and other team members. 
  18. Interprets, supports and communicates policies, standards and procedures
  19. Serves as a role model for team members in all aspects of nursing professionalism and quality of care.  
  20. Supports the  QI, EBP and research process and utilizes the information to support evidence-based care and its application to nursing professional development. May participate in NPD related QI, EBP and research projects.
  21. May participate in payroll and team member scheduling in the NPD department
  22. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  23. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  1. NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License
  2. AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification 
  3. Nursing specialty certification (e.g. NPD-BC, RN-BC(Adult, Geriatric,Neonatal, Pediatric, Oncology), CEN,  CCRN, etc) 

Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  2. Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN)
  3. Minimum of five (5)  years of nursing clinical care 
  4. At least three (3) years of nursing education experience
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  6. Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite  platforms.

 

Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Preferred:

  1. Previous experience in didactic/classroom teaching 
  2. Nursing Professional development certification
  3. Proficiency in the HMH educational delivery platform (e.g. Lippincott)

Compensation
Minimum rate of $126,464.00 Annually

HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency for our team members. The posted rate of pay in this job posting is a reasonable good faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role at the time of posting in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act and does not reflect the full value of our market-competitive total rewards package.

  • Internal Equity: Compensation is determined in a manner consistent with compensation ranges for similar roles within the organization.
  • Budget and Grant Funding: Departmental budgets and any grant funding associated with the job position may impact the pay that can be offered.

Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
