The Teacher of Cosmetology assists with implementing the New Jersey Department of Education Core Curriculum Content Standards while providing a well-developed high school level program in Cosmetology/Hairstyling for classified pupils.  Incorporates the organization's Mission, Values, and Service Standard Behavior guidelines in the fulfillment of all duties and responsibilities.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Teacher of Cosmetology at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

 

1. Provide well-constructed Cosmetology/Hairstyling lessons that meet the requirements and the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards for Cosmetology/Hairstyling.
2. Provide well-constructed Cosmetology/Hairstyling lessons that have clearly stated objectives, builds on previous learning and relates to future lessons and that contains a summary of key points.
3. Utilizes a variety of learning/teaching materials and activities and utilizes discussion and questioning effectively.
4. Evaluates students' interests, aptitudes, temperament and individual characteristics to determine suitable beginning for students.
5. Ability to instruct students in Cosmetology/Hairstyling theory and appreciation.
6. Provides individual and or group lessons using technical knowledge, aesthetic appreciation and prescribed teaching techniques.
7. Conducts group projects, and instructs and coaches students in their individual parts in the fundamentals of Cosmetology/Hairstyling.
8. Critiques performance to identify errors and reinforce correct techniques.
9. Leads and prepares groups for regular and special school program events as appropriate.
10. Orders, stores and maintains inventory of Cosmetology/Hairstyling instruments and supplies.
11. Provide well-constructed Cosmetology/Hairstyling lessons that meet the requirements and the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards for Cosmetology/Hairstyling.
12. Utilizes a variety of learning materials and activities and utilizes discussion and questioning techniques effectively.
13. Assesses and monitors students' progress frequently and by appropriate means, feedback, and modifying the lesson as needed.
14. Reports accurate and relevant information regarding student progress and achievement at conferences, IEP meetings, drafts PLAAFP's, on report cards, on progress reports and to administrative staff as needed.
15. Participates in school-based committees in developing programming and curriculum for the student.
16. Provides clearly articulated behavioral expectations to students and provides students with feedback and reinforcement regarding their behavior.
17. Utilizes the school-wide behavior rewards program and behavioral contracts as directed.
18. Enforces school rules consistently and contributes to the maintenance of a safe and orderly environment.
19. Maintains constructive relationships with other staff members.
20. Maintains positive and appropriate relationships with students.
21. Seeks assistance from appropriate personnel whenever student related or school related problems occur.
22. Implements student-related intervention plans and other plans related to the daily operation of the program as directed by an administrator.
23. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
24. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

1. NJDOE Teacher of Production, Personal or Service Occupations: Cosmetologist/Hairstylist & New Jersey State Board of Cosmetology & Hairstyling License or  NJDOE Teacher of Production, Personal or Service Occupations: Cosmetologist/Hairstylist CE/CEAS and willingness to obtain as appropriate & willingness to obtain New Jersey State Board of Cosmetology & Hairstyling License
2. NJDOE Criminal History Review.
3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
4. Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

 

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

1. Bachelor's Degree.
2. Minimum of three (3) years' experience working as a Teacher.

 

Licenses and Certifications Required:

1. NJDOE Teacher of Production, Personal of Service Occupations Cosmetologist Hairstylist or Teacher of Prod Personal Serv Occup Cosmetologist Hairstylist Certificate Eligibility.
2. Willingness to obtain New Jersey State Board of Cosmetology & Hairstyling License.

Compensation
Minimum rate of $37.69 Hourly

HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency for our team members.   • Internal Equity: Compensation is determined in a manner consistent with compensation ranges for similar roles within the organization.
  • Budget and Grant Funding: Departmental budgets and any grant funding associated with the job position may impact the pay that can be offered.

Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
