Responsibilities

The Manager of Staff Development is a key leadership role responsible for the comprehensive oversight of clinical and non-clinical education and professional development. This position involves designing, implementing, and managing orientation and ongoing training programs to ensure that all team members are competent, compliant with regulatory standards, and equipped to provide high-quality patient care. The manager will lead all educational initiatives, from new hire orientation to advanced clinical competencies, while also playing a vital role in quality improvement, regulatory preparedness, and safety management.  This role requires strategic collaboration with operational leaders and IT analysts to optimize systems and processes that support clinical excellence and efficiency.

 

  • Strategic Program Development and Management: Designs, implements, and continuously updates a comprehensive staff development program. This includes creating and revising orientation materials, competency checklists, and educational modules for the Learning Management System (LMS) based on evidence-based practices and regulatory standards.  Explores new technologies to improve the educational experience.
  • Clinical and Systems Training Delivery: Serves as the lead instructor and coordinator of a wide range of orientation and training classes, including clinical protocols, case management, and documentation. As a credentialed Epic Instructor, this role is responsible for ensuring that all clinical staff are trained for all relevant Epic workflows and functionalities and demonstrate proficient use of the electronic health record.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Survey Readiness: Leads agency-wide preparations for Department of Health and Joint Commission surveys by maintaining and updating survey guides, conducting targeted chart audits, and educating staff on new and existing CMS and Joint Commission standards. This individual also assists in record audits, surveyor navigating of patient charts and providing relevant documentation as requested.
  • Quality Improvement and Clinical Coaching: Collaborates with operational leaders to devise and implement strategies aimed at improving quality measures and patient satisfaction. Provides direct guidance and coaching to new clinicians on specialized documentation, such as OASIS, to ensure accurate and successful completion of proficiency exams.
  • Safety and Emergency Management Oversight: Acts as the designated FEMA-trained leader for safety initiatives, organizing and conducting the Safety and Emergency Management Committee. This function includes developing and executing emergency management exercises and ensuring all operations are proficient with the Everbridge notification system. The role acts as liaison to the HMH Network EOC and Emergency Committees.
  • Policy and Resource Management: Oversees the annual and as-needed review and update of critical agency resources, including all operational policies and procedures, Patient Handbooks, and the Team Member Resource Guide, to ensure all information is current and accessible.
  • Clinical Documentation and Competency Oversight: Provides expert guidance to clinical staff on complex documentation standards, such as OASIS and HOPE, to ensure accuracy and compliance. Oversees the development and maintenance of clinical resources, patient handbooks, and staff competency materials to ensure they reflect current evidence-based practices and regulatory standards.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
  • Lifts a minimum of 10 pounds, pushes and pulls a minimum of 10 pounds and stands a minimum of 120 minutes a day.

Qualifications


Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in health care.
  • Excellent clinical informatics as well as written and oral communication skills with ability to present  quality outcomes at various leadership level meetings within the organization.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently in a fast paced, timeline driven environment.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills with the ability to work independently, multi-task, and prioritize responsibilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.


Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Master's degree (MSN, MBA, MPH).
  • Experience in Home Health/Hospice.
  • Performance improvement experience.
  • Experience with leading quality and outcomes work.
  • Understanding of clinical regulatory standards.


Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License.

Compensation
Minimum rate of $111,924.80 Annually

HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency for our team members. The posted rate of pay in this job posting is a reasonable good faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role at the time of posting in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act and does not reflect the full value of our market-competitive total rewards package.

  • Labor Market Data: Compensation is benchmarked against market data to ensure competitiveness.
  • Experience: Years of relevant work experience.
  • Education and Certifications: Level of education attained, including specialized certifications, credentials, completed apprenticeship programs or advanced training.
  • Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in relevant skills and competencies.
  • Geographic Location: Cost of living and market rates for the specific location.
  • Internal Equity: Compensation is determined in a manner consistent with compensation ranges for similar roles within the organization.
  • Budget and Grant Funding: Departmental budgets and any grant funding associated with the job position may impact the pay that can be offered.

Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
