The Executive Director, Development, Jersey Shore University Medical Center will have responsibility for the leadership, management and implementation of fundraising efforts for Jersey Shore University Medical Center (JSUMC), including Children's Health/Pediatric Services for K. Hovnanian Children's Hospital (KHOV). The Executive Director will take a leadership role in identifying, qualifying, cultivating and soliciting major and principal gifts from grateful patients, corporations, trustees and friends of JSUMC and KHOV. The ED will also work closely with HMH Foundation colleagues to develop and drive strategies to raise funds through annual giving, planned giving, institutional giving and events. The Executive Director will be expected to contribute to the creation of long-term plans, annual budgets, and implementation of short- and long-term fundraising goals for JSUMC and KHOV. In this leadership position, the Executive Director will interface with Board members across the Network, JSUMC, and contribute to the Children's Hospital Advisory Committee. The Executive Director will also coordinate with colleagues at the Joseph M. Sanzari Children's Hospital at Hackensack University Medical Center to support network-wide pediatric fundraising initiatives.
This is an on-site position with some travel throughout the NJ region.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Executive Director, Development, Jersey Shore University Medical Center at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
- Understands the Academic Medical Center nature of JSUMC and the Department of Pediatrics, and their missions, cultures, programs, and operations; as well as their base of financial support and the funding requirements necessary to accomplish its goals.
- Establishes strong working relationships with faculty and staff within JSUMC and KHOV, e.g., Clinical Specialties and ancillary services.
- Responsible for the collaborating with JMSCH colleagues in the implementation and management of Tackle Kids Cancer for the region encompassing KHOV, including growing a comprehensive fundraising program, developing and stewarding relationships with patient families and key KHOV staff, and planning and implementing strategic events, annual giving solicitations and digital media promotions, in partnership with HMH Foundation colleagues.
- Possesses a working knowledge of and being an advocate for the key Academic Medicine programs within JSUMC and KHOV ensuring that program and development staff work collaboratively toward the same goals.
- Develops and implements fundraising programs and strategies to raise significant funds for fundraising priorities.
- Responsible for setting realistic, challenging goals and budgets within their responsibility areas, and directing major gift activity aimed at meeting those goals within budget.
- Supervises and mentors development staff to carry out a comprehensive fundraising program and major and principal gift efforts. Provides strategic management to ensure benchmarks for activity and goals are pursued and met.
- Engages network and hospital leadership to identify and define clear and transparent fundraising priorities, projects and naming opportunities. Maintains communication and visibility with network and hospital leaders to develop and execute fundraising strategies.
- Works in partnership with hospital leadership and development staff to articulate HMHF's strategy to the board and motivate and inspire trustees in sustaining the activity necessary to achieve results.
- Leads cultivation events to broaden the base of support through cultivation of new prospects and donors.
- Solicits, either alone, or with internal allies and/or Physician partners, individuals capable of making substantial financial contributions.
- Identifies projects within JSUMC/KHOV that might attract the support of particular foundations and works with the grants team to submit proposals.
- Works collaboratively with the HMHF prospect development and research team to ensure effective portfolio management for themselves and their direct reports.
- Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Bachelor's degree.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in all aspects of developing and implementing a successful fundraising campaign for individuals, corporations and foundations.
- A successful record of personally identifying, cultivating and soliciting major individual and institutional donors for organizations on a fast track growth mode.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; adept at crafting proposals, donor correspondence and other kinds of materials.
- Ability to work successfully with Board members and volunteer leadership.
- Experience in planned giving and bequests.
- Proven managerial and administrative skills.
- Working knowledge of budget development and implementation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

- Diplomatic and politically savvy; a skillful negotiator who is able to see all sides of an issue and prioritize and balance competing interests.
- Emotionally mature with a sense of humor and the sensitivity to work with a group of diverse personalities.
- Experience in healthcare development, particularly for a children's hospital, a plus.

Compensation
Minimum rate of $146,057.60 Annually
HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency for our team members. The posted rate of pay in this job posting is a reasonable good faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role at the time of posting in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act and does not reflect the full value of our market-competitive total rewards package.

Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in relevant skills and competencies. Geographic Location: Cost of living and market rates for the specific location. Internal Equity: Compensation is determined in a manner consistent with compensation ranges for similar roles within the organization. Budget and Grant Funding: Departmental budgets and any grant funding associated with the job position may impact the pay that can be offered. Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
