The Blue Seal Engineer operates and ensures the operation of high pressure boilers. Controls the generation of continuous supply of all steam and hot water and ensures the operation of chiller and cooling tower and makes necessary repairs as needed. Ensures the flow of the work.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures flow of work and reports aberrations to department management.
  • Maintains, on a daily basis, pressure and proper work levels and anticipated variation in steam load according to departmental Policies and Procedures.
  • Inspects, cleans and repairs equipment on a daily basis and lubricates as needed and as recommended by manufacturers specifications.
  • Performs, on a daily basis, boiler water tests and adds appropriate treatment chemicals as needed according to chemical company recommendations.
  • Advises Supervisor, as needed, of emergency situations and difficulties or unusual conditions.
  • Maintains, on a daily basis, and performs visual check of vacuum pumps according to manufacturer recommendations.
  • Operates during air conditioning season, air conditioning chillers and adds appropriate chemical treatment of water towers as per chemical manufacturer schedule. Maintains all related records. 
  • Maintains and performs visual checks on a daily basis of pressure reading on all fire sprinkler gauges.
  • Maintains, on a daily basis, operating records according to department Policies and Procedures. 
  • Maintains, on a daily basis, a clean work area, observing all safety regulations regarding all plant operations.
  • Performs minor repairs as needed. 
  • Communicates professionally with supervisor, co-workers and outside vendors.
  • Schedules boiler shutdowns for annual inspections in a timely fashion. 
  • Schedule work orders for routine boiler room maintenance using appropriate work requests. Review orders with supervisor.
  • Ensures delivery of excellent customer service resulting in positive and improving patient satisfaction scores for department and Medical Center.
  • Ensures, as needed, proper operation of emergency generator in the event of a power failure according to department Policies and Procedures. 
  • Ensures, as needed, according to department Policies and Procedures proper operation of fire pumps during fire drills or fire alarm activation.
  • Cleans, paints and maintains as needed all equipment.
  • May be required to use chemicals wearing the appropriate PPE. 
  • Maintains appearance/manner while on duty that reflects PMC in a positive light.
  • Promotes a sense of teamwork in the work area. Maintaining a focus on work not interpersonal issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
  • Equipment Operated: High pressure boilers, chillers, vacuum pumps, generator, compressors, watering tower, monitors, phones, valves, gauges, chemical feed pumps, oil tank, electrical distribution panels, switches and fuses.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent. 
  • Minimum of 3 or more years of experience in operating high pressure boilers
  • Current High Pressure New Jersey Blue Seal Engineer
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

  • High Pressure New Jersey Blue Seal Engineer
