Overview
The position is deemed to be 70% clinical, 20% administrative, and 10% academic/teaching.
Essential Functions
- Provides direct clinical care to patients in the Inpatient medical psychiatric unit, Outpatient Behavioral Health and Wellness Center, and consults in Pediatric and Adult Emergency Trauma Department (“ETD”) and medical floors primarily via telehealth.
- Has the overall responsibility for the medical care delivered by HUMC
Consultation/Liaison Psychiatry Service, including coverage of the Emergency Department (“E”D). - Assigns care responsibilities to the physicians, advance practice nurses (“APN”), PAs or other providers assigned to the Consultation/Liaison Psychiatry Service.
- Represents HUMC Consultation/Liaison Psychiatry at all appropriate HUMCcommittees/work groups.
In conjunction with the Chair of Psychiatry or designee, develops, implements, and oversees all clinical policy for the HUMC Consultation/Liaison Psychiatry Service. - Participates in the recruitment and selection of candidates whose primary work assignment is in the HUMC Consultation/Liaison Psychiatry Service.
- Orients and provides clinical supervision to Psychiatrists, Psychiatric APNs, and/or Psychiatric PAs assigned to the HUMC Consultation/Liaison Psychiatry Service.
- In conjunction with the Chair of Psychiatry or designee, is responsible for the Annual Performance Evaluation of assigned providers.
- Takes a leadership role in peer review for the HUMC Consultation/Liaison Psychiatry Service, as well as inpatient, ED and Consultation/Liaison (“C/L”) providers.Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team, which may include, but is not limited to: master level social workers (“LCSW”), residents, fellows, advanced practice providers (“APP”), PAs, Emergency Medicine staff, Internal Medicine staff, Inpatient
Psychiatry staff, and C/L staff. - In conjunction with the Chair of Psychiatry or designee, organize and manage the on-call schedule for the Department of Psychiatry at HUMC.
- Perform other duties as directed by the Chair of Psychiatry at HUMC or designee.
- Provides clinical psychiatric evaluation and treatment of patients.
- Ability to communicate and work collaboratively across disciplines, care
- settings, and provider types.
- Monitors the medical and psychiatric needs of patients in the hospital (inpatient and consultation liaison) and outpatient settings.
Other Functions
- Provides supervision of psychiatric residents and medical students as required.
- Follows all regulatory and compliance guidelines for completing documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Assumes responsibilities for inpatient psychiatric services, Pediatric and Adult ETD, and medical floors as part of the on-call system within the Department of Psychiatry.
Provides face-to-face supervision for each resident and/or fellow assigned to Physician. - Completes all residency training evaluation forms in a timely manner (within one week).
- Participates in the education, case conferences, and lectures medical students as they rotate through the service.
Attends all business and clinical meetings as required.
On-Call Responsibilities
- When the uniform BH CTS call model takes effect, (inclusive of Faculty Call: Monday through Sunday, 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM; and Weekend Call: Friday at 10:00 PM through Monday at 8:00 AM), Physician will assume responsibilities for such call-in rotation with other similarly situated physicians, which will include coverage of inpatient psychiatric services, Pediatric & Adult ETD and medical floors as part of the on-call system within the Department Psychiatry. Until such time, Physician shall participate in the on-call schedule as currently structured, consistent with other similarly situated physicians, as required and scheduled by the Chair, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine, HUMC, or designee.
- Physician will effectuate the transfer and/or admission of patients requiring inpatient admission, in accordance with HUMC policies and procedures.
- Physician shall respond in a timely manner consistent with HUMC’s rules, regulations, and policies, and the Department of Health’s licensure regulations.
- When on-call, Physician will not simultaneously be on-call at another non-HMH hospital or healthcare facility.
- Physician shall cooperate with the Call Program with regard to the implementation of appropriate guidelines and procedures in respect to the delivery of psychiatry services.
Knowledge, Education, and Skills Required:
- M.D/D.O. degree from a recognized medical school
- Obtain and maintain board certification granted by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
- Active, unrestricted New Jersey medical license, and CDS and DEA certifications
Knowledge, Education, and Skills Preferred:
- Fellowship training from an accredited fellowship program in Consultation/LiaisonPsychiatry, Addiction Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and/or Forensic Psychiatry
- Board certification in Consultation/Liaison Psychiatry, Addiction Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and/or Forensic Psychiatry
- Characteristic ability to work collaboratively with professional peers, Department members, and other support areas, including clinical and non-clinical staff within HUMC
- Astute clinician who thrives in a team-based setting
- An excellent communicator
- Passionate about education

Compensation
$259,707

Internal Equity: Compensation is determined in a manner consistent with compensation ranges for similar roles within the specialty and/or sub-specialty. Budget and Grant Funding: Departmental budgets and any grant funding associated with the job position may impact the pay that can be offered.
