The Mgr, Dispatch is responsible for the 24 hour operation of the MICU Dispatch Center.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Manager, Dispatch at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Work with external agencies with regard to Emergency Management in the planning and preparation for events ranging from a large scale EMS incident to a public health emergency or act of terrorism. Participate in planning meetings and training seminars to promote a positive image of the communication center.
  • Ensure that the communications center is staffed and equipment is operational in order to provide for the efficient and timely receipt and dispatch of emergency calls
  • Continually monitor the performance and skills of the staff to ensure that established protocols are met. Analyzes data collected in order to improve the quality of service delivered to the community and provide additional education to staff
  • Evaluates and selects vendors and equipment for the system. Coordinates the vehicle location and computer network system including in vehicle computers covering programming, troubleshooting and repairs
  • Manage the HR aspects of the department including scheduling, approval of overtime, performance evaluations, and submission of payroll, compliance and specific employee issues as they arise. Processes applicants and oversees the interview process and makes decision on applicants to be hired. Researches all complaints received, conducts interviews of involved personnel and evaluates all information obtain to determine the cause. Reports findings and initiates corrective action.
  • Responsible for maintaining the department's accredited status as a Public Safety Communications Center and works with other agencies and support groups in the mission of maintaining excellence.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the computer network, communications equipment, and telephone circuits. Performs all minor repairs to equipment and programming of equipment. Coordinates preventative maintenance, upgrades and repairs with vendors.
  • Operate the Communications Training Academy to provide in-service training in order to develop staff members and to provide basic training to outside agency personnel.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
  • Successful completion of NJ State Police Hazardous Materials Awareness.
  • Successful completion of Accreditation Manager Training.
  • 3 years of prior EMS communication experience.
  • Proper knowledge of the radio system and its components.
  • Familiarization with FCC rules and regulations.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Supervisory experience in related field.
  • Knowledge in Fiber Optic T1/T3 carrier service.
  • ICS-300 Intermediate Incident Command System for Expanding Incidents or ICS-300INS Intermediate Incident Command System for Expanding Incidents - Instructor.
  • ICS-400 Advanced Incident Command System for Command and General Staff - Complex Incidents or ICS-400INS Advanced Incident Command System for Command and General Staff - Complex Incidents - Instructor.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
  • Incident Command (I-200 level) Provider or Incident Command (I-200 level) Instructor Certification.
  • AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification or BLS Instructor Trainer.
  • Emergency Medical Technician Certification New Jersey or Current New Jersey or National Registry EMT-B Certification or New Jersey EMT Instructor or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians - Basic Certification or Emergency Medical Technician Certification New York or Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic Certification.
  • Basic Communications Certification or Basic Communications Instructor Certification.
  • Emergency Medical Dispatcher Certification (NJ State Approved) or Emergency Medical Dispatcher Instructor Certification or Emergency Dispatcher Q.
  • Valid Driver's License from a USA state.
