The Senior Cable Technicians are responsible for supporting campus wide structured data and voice cable plant. These positions will be supervised by the cabling infrastructure Project Manager and report to the Admin Dir, Bio-Med Engineering.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of an Senior Cable Technician at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Support all cabling needs for daily MAC (moves, adds, and changes) work.
  • Test, troubleshoot, repair, and document any cable (Cat, Fiber and Coax) problems.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and replacement of defective WLAN Access Points.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and testing PC, printer, and miscellaneous equipment cable problems.
  • Maintain IDF¿s and BDFs.
  • Maintain Data Centers cable infrastructure.
  • Support cabling request for Data Centers.
  • Perform cable installations.
  • Route and dress cables around office furniture. 
  • Assist with installation of UPSs. 
  • Perform other task related to cabling as needed. 
  • Manage patch cable and cabling hardware inventory. 
  • Pin custom cables when needed.
  • Optimizes departmental and interdisciplinary resources to maximize team.
  • Initiates, writes, and evaluates system, operational and department documentation.
  • Identifies areas for procedural improvements.
  • Provides detailed specifications describing functions to be automated.
  • Provides on-call support for clinical applications. 19. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. 20. Carry and climb tall ladders. 21. Lifts a minimum of 20 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 20 lbs. and stands a minimum of 4 hours a day. 22. Other duties and/or projects as assigned. 23. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
  • 2 - 3 years of experience for non-senior position.
  • 5 or more years of experience for senior position.
  • Knowledge of cabling standards (EIA/TIA).
  • Knowledge of Voice and Data structured cable systems. 
  • Experience with testing copper, fiber and coax cable. 
  • Ability to use cable, fiber and coax cable testing equipment (Fluke, etc.).
  • Ability to read and understand blue prints.
  • Experience with copper, fiber and coax hand tools.
  • Experience with hand construction tools. 
  • Ability to terminate copper, fiber and coax cables.
  • Able to work days, nights and weekends as needed.
  • Good organizational and project management skills. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office and Google Suite platforms.

  • Ortronic Cabling or Belden Cabling or Siemon Cabling or BIX cabling or ADC/Krone Cabling or CNCI Cabling or Honeywell Cabling or Panduit Cabling or BICSI Cabling or Ortronic Fiber Optic Cabling or Belden Fiber Optic Cabling or Siemon Fiber Optic Cabling or BIX Fiber Optic Cabling or ADC/Krone Fiber Optic Cabling or CNCI Fiber Optic Cabling or Honeywell Fiber Optic Cabling or Panduit Fiber or BICSI Fiber.

Compensation
Starting at $39.67 Hourly

HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency for our team members. The posted rate of pay in this job posting is a reasonable good faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role at the time of posting in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act and does not reflect the full value of our market-competitive total rewards package.

Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
