The Dietitian, Cancer Center will be assigned to specific physician services at the John Theurer Cancer Center (JTCC) to provide nutritional services compatible with established standards of practice and in compliance with state and federal regulations.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Dietitian at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

 

Clinical

  • Provides medical nutrition therapy to JTCC patients on referral from physicians, nurse practitioners, advanced practice nurses, nurses, and other health care professionals based on established high risk screening criteria or by patient self-referral.
  • Develops, implements, documents and evaluates a nutrition care plan, based on the assessment of nutritional needs for all referred patients using evidence based practice guidelines.
  • Confers with physicians and medical staff personnel as needed to provide personalized medical nutrition therapy.
  • Reviews patient's medical record and extracts information pertinent to nutritional assessment.
  • Visits and interviews patients and/or significant other in assigned area.
  • Counsels patients and/or family members on various nutrition topics including but not limited to: nutrition related side effects of cancer treatment modalities, maintaining nutrition status during and after cancer treatment, healthy diet guidelines for health and well being and in survivorship, institution of enteral nutrition therapy as needed, and adaptation of diet plans to meet individual life styles.
  • Develops, implements and evaluates nutrition educational materials used at JTCC.
  • Consults with in-patient Hackensack University Medical Center dietitians or those from outside facilities as needed to provide appropriate nutritional care across the continuum of care.
  • Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
  • Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.
  • Hours are primarily during the day shift Monday-Friday, however evening and weekend hours will be assigned as needed to support JTCC programs.

Cooking Studio and Educational Programs

  • Develops and implements food and nutrition programs in the cooking studio for patients, caregivers and staff.
  • Supports and provides guidance and assistance for nutrition programs presented by outside sources.
  • Represents JTCC by presenting nutrition topics for cancer support groups, community groups, colleges and universities and professional conferences and symposiums either as a speaker or writer.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in nutrition or dietetics from an accredited institution, meeting the didactic requirements of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Computer literacy.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Registered Dietitian.

 

Licenses and Certifications Preferred:

  • Certified Specialist in Oncology Nutrition (CSO).

Compensation
Starting at $82,513.60 Annually

The posted rate of pay in this job posting is a reasonable good faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role at the time of posting in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act and does not reflect the full value of our market-competitive total rewards package.

  • Internal Equity: Compensation is determined in a manner consistent with compensation ranges for similar roles within the organization.
  • Budget and Grant Funding: Departmental budgets and any grant funding associated with the job position may impact the pay that can be offered.

Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
