Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Facilities, the Vice President, Enterprise Master Planning & Construction is responsible for shaping the long-term physical infrastructure of the entire hospital system. This position will combine strategic foresight with operational expertise to drive the organization's facility development in alignment with its evolving healthcare mission. The VP, Enterprise Master Planning & Construction is the primary architect of the health system's master facility plan, anticipating future healthcare trends, technological advancements, and demographic shifts to ensure the organization's physical assets support its long-term objectives. This role will also oversee a comprehensive portfolio of construction and renovation projects across all network facilities with the goal of harmonizing diverse projects into a cohesive, system-wide strategy that enhances operational efficiency, improves patient care delivery, and optimizes resource utilization.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Vice President, Enterprise Master Planning & Construction at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Develop and execute the enterprise master plan for facility expansions, renovations, and new construction projects.; Oversee the entire project lifecycle, including concept development, planning, design, bidding, construction, and activation.
  • Manage financial resources allocated to construction projects, including budget development, forecasting, and cost control measures.
  • Lead and mentor Enterprise Management & Construction team to ensure consistent performance; Foster a collaborative team culture focused on innovation and sharing best practices across regions.
  • Maintain and update the enterprise master plan to reflect ongoing developments and future needs across the health system. Integrate sustainable, accessible design principles and environmental considerations into all projects. 5. Oversee the complete lifecycle of construction and renovation projects, ensuring they meet budget, timeline, quality, and safety standards.
  • Responsible for design, development and project management delivery of capital construction projects. Oversee capital projects from design through delivery for both new construction and renovation projects and for campus-wide delivery of maintenance, grounds, and utility services. Obtains bids as required for capital construction and/or renovation projects and makes recommendation for award. Makes recommendations regarding construction means and methods.
  • Directly and through staff, oversee the planning, architectural design, and financial management of new construction and renovation projects.
  • In collaboration with VP, Network Facilities & Maintenance and VP, Real Estate Planning & Mgmt, assist in the occupancy (leasing or ownership) of the facilities to ensure minimal vacancies. Coordinate furniture, IT, telephone and other installations including relocating and moving Team Members as needed.
  • Oversee the management of external resources such as architects, general contractors, real estate brokers, legal counsel, construction managers, services vendors, and furniture vendors. Ensure that outside resources i.e. architects, general contractors prepare proper documents according to codes and oversee/monitor the build out of construction projects.
  • Manages the development of project specifications, drawings and scope of work descriptions for contractors and architects.
  • Review and authorize contractor payment requisitions and change orders. 11. Develop relationships and build trust with a diverse set of stakeholders, including staff, faculty, students, trustees, consultants, members of the community, and state and local officials.
  • Build consensus among diverse stakeholders, including board members, executive leadership, clinical staff, and community partners, regarding facility development plans.
  • In collaboration with the VP, Network Facilities & Maintenance, ensure robust and competitive bid processes and provide oversight for the selection and engagement network-wide of design professionals, engineers and outside consultants, construction managers, and contractors to ensure the timely and professional implementation of their work.
  • In coordination with VP, Sustainability and Facility Energy Mgr, lead efforts to steward HMH resources effectively and efficiently in support of the sustainability and energy commitments and in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations governing facility operations, routine capital construction, renovations and facilities management.
  • Ensure that all hospitals, research centers, satellite clinics, and all related building systems adhere to Joint Commission standards, as well as local, state, and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related area.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in hospital administration, including engineering, maintenance, environmental services, or an equivalent amount of experience and education. At least seven years in a Facilities leadership position.
  • A track record of success establishing a vision for facilities-management services and capital project delivery that advances mission, maximizes efficiency and return on investment, and demonstrates effective stewardship of assets.
  • Demonstrated success advising senior leadership and trustees on strategic investments in physical-plant assets and in the resources necessary to optimize them in a complex environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in change management, preferably within an institutional setting, and a track record of facilities-service delivery.
  • Excellent technical, management, organizational, interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to lead a team and manage multiple projects.
  • Working knowledge of codes and policies, (TJC, FGI, and NFPA), for hospital and ambulatory care areas.
  • Proven interpersonal skills necessary to negotiate contracts and represent the Network.
  • The analytical ability to conduct cost benefit analyses and in-depth budget variation analysis as well as to resolve complex operational and sensitive interpersonal problems within the division.
  • An in-depth understanding of regulations, compliance and accreditation affecting the provision of health care services in the State of New Jersey.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Business, financial, and construction acumen.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office and Google Suite platforms.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Master's degree.

Compensation
Starting at $273,748.80 Annually

HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency for our team members. The posted rate of pay in this job posting is a reasonable good faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role at the time of posting in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act and does not reflect the full value of our market-competitive total rewards package.

The starting rate of pay is provided for informational purposes only and is not a guarantee of a specific offer. Posted hourly rates may be stated as an annual salary in the offer and posted annual salaries may be stated as an hourly rate in the offer, depending on the level and nature of the job duties and credentials of the candidate.   • Internal Equity: Compensation is determined in a manner consistent with compensation ranges for similar roles within the organization.
  • Budget and Grant Funding: Departmental budgets and any grant funding associated with the job position may impact the pay that can be offered.

Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
