Reporting directly to the EVP, Chief Quality Officer, and indirectly to the President of CTS and Southern Region, the Vice President for Clinical Integration, Standardization and Specialty Care is the senior leader overseeing the HMH strategic mission to ensure that healthcare delivery is STEEEP (Safe, Timely, Effective, Efficient, Equitable, and Patient Centered), ultimately leading to better patient outcomes, improved patient experience, reduced healthcare costs, and maximized overall healthcare value. This role focuses on achieving strategic clinical integration, clinical standardization and value maximization by partnering with the Clinical Service Lines and Specialties including the President of the Clinical Service Lines, the Administrative leaders of clinical service lines and the regional chairs across the network. It is aimed at bridging gaps between clinical care, information technology, and administrative operations, enhancing the delivery of healthcare services, overseeing the seamless integration of people, technology, operations and goals, while simultaneously driving the transition towards value-based care models that prioritize patient outcomes and cost efficiency. It works purposely to build a system that consistently delivers value to patients and HMH across the continuum of care.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Vice President for Clinical Integration, Standardization and Specialty Care at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
- Leads the development and implementation of comprehensive strategies that foster integration across clinical ( Standardization, Evidence Based, Guideline Oriented, Personalized), operational (Care models, team based care, care coordination, access to care), and technological domains, ensuring these efforts align with value-based care principles.
- Champions High Reliability Organizing initiatives to achieve clinical excellence, improve healthcare quality, patient safety, and satisfaction, while identifying opportunities to reduce costs, eliminate waste and inappropriate utilization, thereby maximizing value for patients, providers, and HMH.
- Manages cross-functional teams to promote collaboration and integration across various departments, ensuring that clinical, operational, and technological functions are cohesively aligned with the network goals and that value-based care initiatives are embedded throughout the network.
- Supports the integration of technology systems ( Electronic Health Records (EHR), telehealth services, and other digital health initiatives) and the use of data analytics to support clinical decisions, operational efficiency, and performance measurement in the context of delivering high-value patient care.
- Partners with the Clinical Service Lines (CTSs), Clinical Councils, Regional chairs and Clinical Departments across the network to design, develop and implement new care models, care standards and integrated systems / processes to ensure continuity of care across the continuum, high quality / safe care and an optimal patient experience.
- Lead change management and implements key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor the success of integration and value-based care initiatives, focusing on identifying areas for improvement, leveraging data analytics to inform decision-making to improve patient outcomes, cost reduction, and overall network performance.
- Ensures that integration strategies and implementations are compliant with network regulations and standards, including privacy laws and data protection guidelines, and fosters partnerships with external organizations to advance the goals of integration and value-based care.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Medical degree required.
- Advanced studies (Certification or Masters Degree) in healthcare administration, business administration, public health, or a related field.
- More than 7 years experience in healthcare management, particularly in areas related to healthcare integration, quality improvement, efficient clinical operation and financial management within a large complex healthcare setting.
- 7-10 years of experience in health services, human factors, clinical standardization and/or implementation science with proven academic and scholarly track.
- 7-10 years of experience in patient safety and quality.
- Strong problem solving skills and ability to guide complex projects in challenging environments.
- Ability to interpret strategy, to analyze, develop and present work and to monitor and evaluate implementation of programs.
- Knowledge of health services research and evaluation methodologies, program design, and implementation.
- Strong interpersonal communication and excellent oral communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with a broad range of partners and in a team environment.
- High degree of judgment, maturity and originality.
- Strong leadership skills including strategic thinking, execution competency and high relational ability with the competence to lead change, motivate cross-functional teams, and influence stakeholders at all levels of the network.
- Advanced analytical skills, with a strategic mindset to leverage data for decision-making and to guide the network toward integrated, value-based care.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, necessary for engaging diverse stakeholders, effectively conveying complex integration plans to a diverse audience, and advocating for the transformation towards integrated and value-based healthcare.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
- MD degree
- Mastery of quality, performance improvement and implementation methodologies.
- Highly collaborative leader.
- Academically productive.
