The Surgical Scheduling Representative is responsible for maintaining the surgical schedule and accurately scheduling all surgical procedures. Performs other tasks depending upon department needs. The Surgical Scheduling Rep supports the philosophy and objectives of the JFK Medical Center. All duties performed in accordance with established procedures.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Surgical Scheduling Representative  at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Maintains a neat and orderly work area and department. Demonstrates accuracy, speed and timeliness in performance of role. Complies with local, state and federal regulatory and accrediting standards. Completes required e-learning in a timely manner, obtains and maintains certifications if applicable, and attends required system programs annually. Attends all staff meetings.
  • Collaborates with physician and healthcare team to establish plan of care for each patient. Provides individualized checklist for each patient outlining the necessary evaluations and testing required prior to surgery. Liaison to hospital surgical booking office and Pre Admission Testing. Acts as liaison to physician's practice administrator and staff and assists with coordination of physician's office schedules.
  • Responsible for the scheduling of patients for surgery utilizing established hospital policies and procedures. Sets surgical schedule as directed by physician. Reports changes to Bariatric Coordinator. Follows patient completion of pre surgical requisites. Oversees proper submission of surgical consents, physician orders, pre admission testing and medical/cardiac clearances. Performs other duties as required. 
  • Schedules patient initial and follow up appointments. Makes courtesy reminder calls. Provides each patient with information on required testing. Obtains results of all pertinent testing prior to patient appointment. Collaborates with physicians to create office schedule. Reports any conflicts. Informs supervisor of any changes to schedule as needed. Brings any abnormal lab results to the attention of supervisor and physician. 
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
  • Experience in a medical setting and knowledge of medical terminology required. Excellent verbal and written communication and customer service skills a must.
  • Computer, Fax, Printer

Compensation
Minimum rate of $20.32 Hourly

HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency for our team members. The posted rate of pay in this job posting is a reasonable good faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role at the time of posting in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act and does not reflect the full value of our market-competitive total rewards package.

The starting rate of pay is provided for informational purposes only and is not a guarantee of a specific offer.   • Internal Equity: Compensation is determined in a manner consistent with compensation ranges for similar roles within the organization.
  • Budget and Grant Funding: Departmental budgets and any grant funding associated with the job position may impact the pay that can be offered.

Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
