The Supervisor, Occupational Therapy is responsible for direct supervision of staff therapists, therapist assistants, and support personnel. As a member of an interdisciplinary rehabilitation team, this position is responsible for occupational therapy evaluation, treatment planning, treatment implementation, documentation, and patient/family education. Other responsibilities include orientation and on the job training of staff; development, monitoring and modification of programs; and other professional and administrative duties as assigned. The incumbent also participates in department/facility initiatives as assigned. Additionally, Occupational Therapists are responsible for practicing with integrity and autonomy in accordance with practice act/standards, code of ethics and regulatory bodies and are responsible for identifying and effectively addressing situations outside of these guidelines.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Supervisor, Occupational Therapy at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
1. Ensures that staff delivers patient care based on organizational/departmental policies/procedures and standards of practice. Assists staff in recognizing the need to change treatment plans and/or communicate information to patients and/or families. Prioritizes patient care and delivers timely response to staff, patients, families, physicians, and other team members. Serves as a resource person to staff with clinical and procedural issues. Regularly monitors program (patient) outcomes and effectively utilizes this information to assure high quality cost effective patient care. Maintains awareness of needs from other departments and provides assistance as needed. Carries a caseload of (50% of staff). Identifies performance improvement opportunities and works with the staff to incorporate practices into patient care. Provides ongoing performance appraisals and evaluates staff educational needs/career advancement. Seen as a mentor/coach to facilitate individuals program growth.
2. Collects and records patient care data that follows format and guidelines of the patient care service, regulatory agencies and third party payers which reflects an understanding of reimbursement systems and their impact on patient care. This includes, but is not limited to, initial evaluation, daily notes, reassessments/progress reports, discharge plans and communication with members of the team. Additionally records daily billing and follows department guidelines for productivity.
3. Prepares for the evaluation in accordance with department policies/procedures and standards of practice including obtaining patient history, exhibiting knowledge of patient diagnoses and researching unfamiliar diagnoses. Selects and administers tests and measures. Additionally, synthesizes evaluation results to formulate the diagnosis, goals, prognosis and plan of care.
4. Establishes a treatment plan based on evaluation results, goals and best practice. Collaborates with an interdisciplinary team, patients and patient's support system. Assesses and re-assesses need for modifications to plan of care and goals. Identifies need for consultations and/or refers the patient to another health care professional or health care services. Initiates and completes discharge plan. Provides education/training to patients and/or patient support system.
5. Ensures compliance of all medical records with policies, procedures, patient care and insurance documentation requirements. Collects and records accurate data/information/charges in a manner that reflects an understanding of reimbursement systems and their impact on patient care. Provides patient treatment and coverage per established departmental guidelines. Follow department guidelines for productivity.
6. Functional Training: This may include but is not limited to gait training and/or locomotion training; therapeutic activities (eg. bed mobility, transfers); community re-integration, ADLs/IADLS; work injury management; equipment prescription.
7. Musculoskeletal Interventions: This may include but is not limited to, therapeutic exercise; manual therapy; joint mobilizations.
8. Neurological Interventions: This may include but is not limited to, handling techniques; neuro-developmental training; neuromuscular re-education; cognitive rehab; behavioral management; spasticity management; vestibular therapy.
9. Other This may include, but is not limited to: cardiac rehab/medical monitoring and splinting
10. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
11. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
1. Graduate of an AOTA accredited Occupational Therapy education program or equivalent.
2. Minimum of 3 years clinical experience.
3. Experience in brain injury rehabilitation and/or pediatric setting.
4. Demonstrated ability and interest in supervision and management.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
1. Master's degree curriculum in Occupational Therapy.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
1. Occupational Therapist License.
2. If needed for a department or function, must be eligible for, or possess NJ Department of Education Certification as a School Occupational Therapist.

Compensation
Starting at $106,329.60 Annually
HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency for our team members. The posted rate of pay in this job posting is a reasonable good faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role at the time of posting in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act and does not reflect the full value of our market-competitive total rewards package.

- Internal Equity: Compensation is determined in a manner consistent with compensation ranges for similar roles within the organization.
- Budget and Grant Funding: Departmental budgets and any grant funding associated with the job position may impact the pay that can be offered.
Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
