The Special Projects and Policy Operations Advisor, with oversight by the Senior Vice President, Team Health (TH) and Safety; Chief Risk Officer, is a central part of the leadership team who works collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues and subject matter experts to implement strategic and development planning and also works independently to create and oversee the implementation of an integrated approach to harmonizing and standardizing policies, processes, engagement, and education.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Special Projects and Policy Operations Advisor at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
- Assists the Enterprise Risk Management Team, Team Health, Team Safety and Emergency Management with special projects and policy harmonization to align with strategic plan and annual goals for the division.
- Coordinates review of Policy and Procedures at the network and local level; keeping the HMH Policy Committee apprised as well as relevant stakeholders to include but not be limited to: Chief Nursing Officer, Chief Legal Officer, Chief Information Officer, Chief Compliance Officer, Chief Risk Officer, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Quality Officer.
- Organizes work processes and coordinates work, as assigned, through the department
- Oversees the development of new network policies, bringing together key stakeholders and subject matter experts to achieve harmonization in practice.
- Ensures regulatory standards are integrated into all policies, monitors OSHA, CMS, State of New Jersey, The Joint Commission and other entities as appropriate for policy and standards changes and/or new criteria as needed to help inform program and policy development.
- Manages Policy and guideline development, approval and implementation with a focus on meeting the needs of the HMH Team, regulatory requirements (OSHA, NJDOHSS, CDC, TJC, etc.), safety, quality and process optimization efforts in collaboration with appropriate subject matter experts.
- Reviews, revises and updates operational processes impacted through optimization efforts in the policy space leveraging technology, with consideration of efficiency enhancements when possible.
- Review and update clinical Policies and Procedures in accordance with organizational, state and federal guidelines
- Ensures that policies and procedures are approved and integrated into the electronic system and disseminated to appropriate stakeholders; in addition to retiring policies in the policy system that are no longer relevant keeping stakeholders updated on this process.
- Coordinates with network policy administrators to ensure that workflow and policies are aligned across applications of the electronic health record.
- Ensures there is a mechanism to capture all policy changes, facilitate tracking to ensure that as policies are identified and workflow is changed, that the said change is appropriately documented in the policy and communicated to the end user.
- Collaborates across the continuum to influence the implementation of these policies in an efficient, precise and repetitious manner.
- Presents policies to appropriate committees for approval and vote.
- Obtains appropriate sign off for all Policy and Procedures.
- Analyzes healthcare laws, regulations and public policies
- Develops, recommends and /or implements actions for process improvements as appropriate, while maintaining compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and best practices.
- May act as primary nursing leader for implementation of new processes from an outcomes-based perspective.
- Participate on committee and department meetings throughout the organization.
- Conducts research on evidence-based healthcare practices and guidelines available in Epic libraries
- Provides oversight and management of assigned projects and related tasks, and planning for improvements where needed.
- Use standardized templates for policies and procedures, including format, verbiage and content.
- Utilizes Change Management, Project Management and Business Process Management disciplines for successful, on-budget and on-time initiatives delivery.
- Meets project goals, especially related to deliverables, performance measures, and processes.
- Ensures the coordination of documentation, systems and department staff to achieve the goals of any assigned project.
- Monitors project progress, drafting and distributing periodic progress and performance reports for leadership and stakeholders.
- Serves as a liaison to division leadership for assigned projects.
- Completes other Duties as Assigned (e.g., lead/participate in additional projects/initiatives).
- Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Bachelor's degree in nursing, science, biology or other related field.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in Healthcare setting.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in education and program/curriculum design.
- Minimum of 3 years management/leadership experience.
- Minimum of 3 years experience with regulatory standards and compliance (e.g., OSHA, NJDOHSS, CDC, TJC, etc.).
- Project management, process improvement and strategic planning experience.
- Data management, analysis and reporting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to handle stress and multitask
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Attention to detail.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
- Master's Degree in Health Care, Business, or other field.
- PhD/DNP
Licenses and Certifications Required:
- RN NJ state licensure, if applicable.
- National Certification.
Licenses and Certifications Preferred:
- Lean Six Sigma Certification.
- Project Management Certification (PMP)
- OSHA 10 Certification.
- CHSP.
- COHN-S (if RN).

Compensation
Starting at $153,732.80 Annually
HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency for our team members. The posted rate of pay in this job posting is a reasonable good faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role at the time of posting in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act and does not reflect the full value of our market-competitive total rewards package.
The starting rate of pay is provided for informational purposes only and is not a guarantee of a specific offer. Posted hourly rates may be stated as an annual salary in the offer and posted annual salaries may be stated as an hourly rate in the offer, depending on the level and nature of the job duties and credentials of the candidate. Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
