The PM&R Project Lead serves as a key operational and programmatic leader within the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department. This role provides high-level support directly to the Department Chair and Practice Manager, ensuring operational continuity, programmatic success, and strategic alignment. This position manages the department's academic programs, including the medical student rotations, and coordinates the department's presence at national conferences. This position requires a high degree of autonomy and involves the development of high level presentations, strategic documents, and data analysis to support departmental growth and objectives. The Lead acts as a central resource for faculty and staff and a key liaison between the department and internal/external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a PM&R Project Lead at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
- Departmental Operations Assists the Practice Manager with the oversight of support staff, including processing payroll, managing timekeeping, and resolving day-to-day operational issues. Prepares the department for regulatory and accreditation surveys, including JCAHO and CARF. Oversees the operational flow of key clinical service lines, including the Neuro pod (Spasticity, SCI, TBI) and the Wheelchair Clinic, acting as a liaison between physicians, vendors, and therapists. Analyzes office and clinic workflows to identify inefficiencies and implements process improvements to enhance patient flow, scheduling, and satisfaction. Assists with staff transitions and operational continuity, including the onboarding of new attending physicians and staff to ensure seamless integration.
- Academic Program Management & Coordination Manages all administrative, operational, and educational activities for medical student rotations, serving as the central liaison for all prospective and current medical students. Schedules faculty, secures learning spaces, ensures compliance with institutional policies, and maintains accurate student records for the PM&R rotation. Coordinates departmental representation and participation in local, regional, and national conferences (e.g., AAP, AAPM&R), supporting faculty presentations and engagement. Provides administrative and operational support for the Annual PM&R Board Review Course and other continuing medical education (CME) events.
- Executive Support & Projects Works directly with the Department Chair to develop and produce high level presentations for audiences including the Medical Executive Committee, Board of Directors, and national forums. Develops and maintains key strategic documents, including Department Clinical Algorithms and Growth Charts for Rehabilitation Service Line. Creates and reports on physician and department productivity data, working closely with the Chair to share insights with physicians and leadership. Acts as a project lead for special initiatives and documents developed by the Chair and faculty.
- Community Outreach & Event Management Leads the organization, administration, and execution of all departmental events, such as the PM&R Book Celebration and faculty functions. Develops and maintains positive relationships with referral sources, community partners, and outside agencies to foster departmental growth. Coordinates with the marketing team on promotional activities, including social media, brochure development, and community outreach opportunities. Serves as the Department Representative for culture and engagement initiatives.
- Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Undergraduate degree in a science, healthcare, business, or related field.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in a clinical healthcare or academic medical setting.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex programs and projects with a high degree of autonomy.
- Excellent organizational skills; a self-starter with the ability to effectively set priorities and manage multiple concurrent tasks.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, analyze, and report on data.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with physicians, executive leadership, staff, and students.
- Exceptional discretion and experience handling confidential and sensitive information.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office platforms.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
- Master of Business Administration (MBA) or other advanced degree.
- Experience in an academic medical center.
- Project or program management experience.
- Understanding of statistics and accounting principles.

Compensation
Minimum rate of $90,750.40 Annually
HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency for our team members. The posted rate of pay in this job posting is a reasonable good faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role at the time of posting in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act and does not reflect the full value of our market-competitive total rewards package.
The starting rate of pay is provided for informational purposes only and is not a guarantee of a specific offer. Posted hourly rates may be stated as an annual salary in the offer and posted annual salaries may be stated as an hourly rate in the offer, depending on the level and nature of the job duties and credentials of the candidate. - Labor Market Data: Compensation is benchmarked against market data to ensure competitiveness.
- Experience: Years of relevant work experience.
- Education and Certifications: Level of education attained, including specialized certifications, credentials, completed apprenticeship programs or advanced training.
- Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in relevant skills and competencies.
- Geographic Location: Cost of living and market rates for the specific location.
- Internal Equity: Compensation is determined in a manner consistent with compensation ranges for similar roles within the organization.
- Budget and Grant Funding: Departmental budgets and any grant funding associated with the job position may impact the pay that can be offered.
Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
