The Manager, Sustainability is responsible for fostering a culture of sustainability by identifying, managing, and implementing sustainability programs, while engaging with executive campus leadership and team members to foster sustainability broadly across HMH.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Manager, Sustainability at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
- Provide VP, Sustainability with management and oversight of day-to-day operations of sustainability programs.
- Manage tracking all sustainability data that is to be reported out through Practice Greenhealth Application, including Key Green, ESG plan, Healthcare Anchor Network and other platforms.
- Manage Joint Commission Sustainability Certification process.
- Evaluate and propose policy enhancements to align with organizational goals and ensure regulatory compliance
- Develop actionable procedures to streamline workflows, improve efficiency, ensure accuracy, and mitigate operational risks.
- Work with site application leads to ensure timely collection of information.
- Serve as a primary point of contact and subject matter expert for sustainability, connecting team members and departments throughout the network.
- Collaborate with outsourced partners for waste, environmental services and food services to ensure alignment with sustainability priorities.
- Lead Sustainability Committee networkwide.
- Partner with Supply Chain, Facilities, and other operational teams to advance strategies for waste reduction, diversion, and sustainable procurement.
- Collaborate with the Healthy Interiors Team, ensuring up to date tracking of healthy interiors (flooring, furnishings).
- Develop campus education and training components of sustainability programs and services.
- Serve as a resource to each hospital Sustainability lead for sustainability initiatives and serve as a liaison with the Practice Greenhealth support team.
- Manage and lead the Purchasing Department Green Team.
- Manage awareness of sustainability goals and practices; waste diversion, safer chemicals, energy reduction, healthy foods, climate action, and other programs in development.
- Manage all Award applications network wide including data collection/reporting, narrative requirements, submissions.
- Work with site application leads to ensure timely collection of information.
- Ensure HMH Green Building Standards are up to date with industry wide best practices.
- Represent Sustainability program on the network wide hazardous waste committee.
- Review sustainability presentations and develop master decks to pull content from.
- Maintain thorough and current knowledge of sustainability practices, and applicable laws and regulations.
- Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
- Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Masters in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or other related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of direct experience in sustainability program management.
- Working knowledge of Joint Commission Sustainability Certification.
- Working knowledge of Practice Greenhealth Award Applications.
- Ability to foster teamwork.

- Ability to build collaborative relationships.
- Problem/situation analysis.
- Analytical thinking skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
- Strong preference for prior experience within the healthcare sector.
