The Information Technology (IT) Cloud Engineer III is responsible for developing the Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) cloud platform and providing technical architecture and design leadership for technology initiatives across the HMH network. Use best practices for engineering, configuration, administration, automation, and business continuity of a highly resilient, performant, and cost-effective HMH cloud environment - an essential component of the Digital Technology Services (DTS) network goals and the growth of HMH. Will design, implement, maintain, and continuously automate a large, complex cloud-based computing environment. In addition to technical responsibilities, will provide guidance to engineers and collaborate with internal departments.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Information Technology (IT) Cloud Engineer III at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

 

  • Provide technical guidance to cloud and other engineers for the design, implementation, and support of new cloud platform architecture and automation technologies. Update and maintain existing cloud and automation systems.
  • HMH subject matter expert for cloud, automation, and end-to-end architecture for IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS solutions.
  • Work closely with other teams to develop and promote cloud-native application architectures (microservices, serverless, containers) and application development and operations practices.
  • Maintain overall industry knowledge on the latest trends, technology, etc., and demonstrate forward thinking around how technology can support where the organization is going.
  • Advocate and define the cloud architecture vision from a strategic perspective, including internal and external platforms, tools, and systems.
  • Design, configure, implement, and support a fully automated workflow for provisioning and maintaining a complex, highly available cloud environment using infrastructure as code.
  • Develop and maintain a library of deployable, tested, and documented automation design scripts, processes, and procedures for deploying services to the cloud
  • Enable DevOps development activities and complex development tasks that will involve working with tools such as GitHub, Jenkins, Cloud Build, and Azure DevOps.
  • Participate in cloud computing environment build-outs, software installation, maintenance, and support, including but not limited to patches, fixes, end-of-life preparation, and upgrades.
  • Assist in the development of technology roadmaps and end-of-life technology plans.
  • Implement production changes during defined maintenance windows and support on call rotation; Serve as a point of escalation within the team for production support issues
  • Review product work, including detailed code, from other team members for approval to deploy; provide technical feedback as needed.
  • Provide technical expertise and ownership to diagnose and resolve issues, including but not limited to the determination and provision of a workaround solution or escalation to service owners.
  • Drive scope definition, requirements analysis, functional and technical design, application build, product configuration, unit testing, and production deployment for cloud platform projects.
  • Deliver technical solutions that solve for new levels of complexity, scale, and performance and, in turn, enable breakthrough innovations.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in a technical discipline such as Computer Science or Information Technology.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in IT systems installation, operations, design, and architecture of virtualized servers/cloud systems.
  • Must have good consultative, communication, team player, and analytical skills for regular interaction between various teams distributed across HMH.
  • Good technical leadership skills and relevant experience working with other highly technical resources through adopting new technologies while also maintaining highly available, mission-critical systems.
  • Possess deep technical knowledge and extensive experience with complex IT environments, including applications, middleware, storage, networks, information security, and operations; as well as have a solid understanding of cloud services, cloud native architectures, and application delivery models.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills to business/technology leaders, architects, developers, & team members.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a group of high-performing technical individuals.
  • Hands-on experience with Terraform, GitHub, and configuration management tools such as Puppet, Chef, or Ansible.
  • Demonstrated ability to support cloud architecture recommendations and decisions with research and reasoning.
  • Hands-on experience with Terraform, Github, & configuration management tools (i.e. Puppet, Chef, Ansible).
  • Experience with implementing and maintaining highly available mission-critical environments for twenty-four-seven (24/7) availability.
  • Experience working in a defined production change control process and a mature security control posture environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cloud architecture and implementation features (OS, multi-tenancy, virtualization, orchestration, elastic scalability) and DevOps tool chains and processes.
  • Demonstrated history of working within deadlines and under pressure.
  • Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

 

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Experience working in a health care or highly regulated environment.
  • Strong understanding of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), object-oriented analysis and design, and client/server systems.
  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience in IT systems installation, operations, design, and virtualized servers/cloud systems architecture.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of container and microservices technologies and related architectures, Kubernetes, Jenkins, and Kafka.
  • Passionate about new technologies and architecture.
  • Keeps current with cloud platform and infrastructure space trends while always searching for ways to improve systems as technology evolves, with a steady eye towards extensive regulatory/compliance demands (i.e. Center for Internet Security [CIS], National Institute of Standards and Technology [NIST], Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act [HIPPA] etc).

 

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Foundation certification at hire or within twelve (12) months of hire.

Licenses and Certifications Preferred:

  • Google Cloud Platform Certified Professional Cloud Architect.
  • Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert certification.

Compensation
Starting at $131,144.00 Annually

HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency for our team members. The posted rate of pay in this job posting is a reasonable good faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role at the time of posting in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act and does not reflect the full value of our market-competitive total rewards package.

The starting rate of pay is provided for informational purposes only and is not a guarantee of a specific offer. Posted hourly rates may be stated as an annual salary in the offer and posted annual salaries may be stated as an hourly rate in the offer, depending on the level and nature of the job duties and credentials of the candidate. Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
