The Director, Annual Giving will report to the Executive Director, Annual Giving with a dotted line report to the Vice President, Gift Planning. Approximately 80% of incumbent's time would be dedicated to the Annual Giving Team and 20% allocated to the Gift Planning area to execute both the Foundation's Annual Giving Program, with an emphasis on donor retention, acquisition, and increasing fundraising results for Annual Giving, as well as marketing elements for the Planned Giving program which include multi-channel strategies on digital and direct mail channels. Working as an integral part of the HMH team, the position is responsible for the strategic planning and oversight as well as the implementation of cultivation and acquisition communications for these audiences, ultimately resulting in a strong donor pipeline. This position will also include strategic direction and oversight of digital peer-to-peer programs at HMH.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Director, Annual Giving at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

 

  • Serve as a valued member of the Annual Giving and Gift Planning Teams and contribute to the fundraising goals of HMH.
  • Manage development, coordination and implementation of direct mail and digital fundraising efforts for the Annual Giving & Gift Planning teams.
  • Manages work with service-line fundraisers for Annual Giving initiatives and the Executive Director of Annual Giving on special projects related to Annual Giving throughout the year.
  • Provides Managerial oversight to the Manager(s), Annual Fund and Coordinator, Annual Fund.
  • Annual Giving: 1. Oversees and leads designated direct mailings for HMH hospitals and network fundraising, including developing content, strategy, layout, design and managing all logistics including but not limited to overseeing mailing lists, upgrade strategy for donors, and creative and mailhouse vendors.
  • Manages strategies to solicit lapsed donors and other special mailings to target specific donor groups with continued goal of returning donations, renewals, upgrading giving levels.
  • Develops analytics process and maintains analytics throughout the year, providing regular updates to the Executive Director and foundation leadership with recommendations for opportunities of growth and enhancements.
  • Establishes, builds and enhances solicitation efforts and supports growth of annual giving fundraising.
  • Oversees other direct mail projects, especially related to key network priorities and annual giving fundraising efforts, including but not limited to Behavioral Health, School of Medicine and Children's Health. Oversee mailing logistics for special mailings, as needed, including list oversight and production logistics with vendors.
  • Responsibilities include managing production schedule, working with vendors, interviewing letter signers, writing content, preparing mailing lists, and analyzing results to make improvements. Additional direct mail duties as needed.
  • Oversees the email appeals for HMH hospitals, other entities, and Hackensack Meridian Foundation.
  • Updates appeals info in Raisers Edge, including solicitation numbers and expenses. Prepares lists for Support Services to upload back into Raisers Edge to track donor appeals. Runs reports monthly to track progress to goals. Runs queries and reports as needed.
  • Helps various areas as needed with online donation forms, email troubleshooting, queries in Raisers Edge, converting PDFs, etc.
  • Planned Giving: Manages production schedule, content calendar for email appeals, quarterly mailings, Planned Giving (PG) websites, collateral pieces, working with vendors, interviewing letter signers, collaborating in writing content, preparing mailing lists, and analyzing results to make improvements. May be asked to assist with content updates for PG presentations & educational sessions.
  • Collaborates with the Major Gift Teams to develop creative ways to recruit and identify new members into the Heritage and Legacy Societies and a Loyal Giving Society.
  • Serves as a liaison for Philanthropy Communications for PG pieces and mailing appeals, integrating e-appeals and social media to the overall HMH systemwide marketing approach.
  • Works with the VP on strategic marketing segmentation of key PG market sectors (Principal & Major Gifts, Annual Giving (loyal donors), Heritage Club, board members, professional advisors, etc.) that will strengthen messaging on deferred giving opportunities, in an effort to raise awareness and revenue in the blended gift space.
  • Works with VP on outreach/planned giving proposals, goal setting for planned giving in marketing, and provides strategic content on emails on team members, trustees, or principal gift donors on an as need-basis.
  • May be asked to collaborate on identifying prospects through data analysis of the database based on age, loyal giving and other criteria.
  • Other AG&PG Duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a Marketing, Communications, or Nonprofit related discipline.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in a non-profit annual giving setting to include marketing, communications, and experience with direct mail and digital fundraising.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to work effectively with many different constituencies, especially donors, prospects, team members and others.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, story-telling or direct mail writing experience preferred.
  • Thorough with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to understand and analyze data to drive strategy.
  • Ability to organize time effectively, establish priorities and manage many tasks simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with Raisers Edge, Crescendo software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office platforms.

Compensation
Minimum rate of $131,144.00 Annually

HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency for our team members. The posted rate of pay in this job posting is a reasonable good faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role at the time of posting in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act and does not reflect the full value of our market-competitive total rewards package.

  • Budget and Grant Funding: Departmental budgets and any grant funding associated with the job position may impact the pay that can be offered.

Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
