The Manager, Ambulatory Infusion Pharmacy is responsible for the operational compliance with federal and state rules and regulations surrounding pharmacy practice and tactical implementation of pharmacy initiatives in coordination with the Director of Pharmacy. This role is the supervising Pharmacist and is responsible for the daily operation of the Totowa Cancer Center Pharmacy.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Manager, Ambulatory Infusion Pharmacy at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
- Manages and leads pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and other support staff who provide patient care or supportive services for respective areas of oversight.
- Partners with site nursing, medical, and administration leaders to optimize patient care through pharmacy infusion services and ensures appropriate drug storage, preparation, and patient monitoring to meet the needs of patients.
- Assures that departmental services are in accordance with standards established by the medical staff and state, local, federal and all regulatory agencies.
- Dispenses and monitors medication therapy in accordance with all applicable regulations and standards. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: reviewing and dispensing of medication orders; clarifying potential problems with medication orders; monitoring of patient drug therapy regimens for allergies, drug-drug interactions and drug-food interactions and potential adverse reactions; preparation of IV admixtures; maintenance of emergency drug supplies; and interacting with physicians, nurses and other members of the health care team for the benefit of the patient.
- Follows protocol and procedures for proper hand washing, gloving and gowning when working in an ISO Class 7 Clean Room before compounding any sterile admixtures to minimize touch contamination while compounding. Demonstrate strong aseptic compounding skills when working in ISO Class 7 Clean Room and in order to be in compliance with USP 797 and USP 800 Compounding Standards.
- Tracks and trends outcomes measures. Accountable for assessing, managing, and reporting medication-related incidents and equipment errors and/or failures. Identifies opportunities and leads efforts for improvement to achieve best-demonstrated practice.
- Oversees the purchasing, control, and security of all pharmaceuticals and medical supplies.
- Establishes integral working relationships with physicians, nurses, and the medical community. Assesses and reconciles problems between the pharmacy department and other hospital departments, medical staff and customers adequately and efficiently.
- Ensures compliance and oversees all regulatory inspections; makes appropriate modifications as required with changes in regulations. Develops a plan of action to citations when necessary.
- Actively participates, supports, and may lead system initiatives that are focused on quality, medication safety, medication use and formulary related activities.
- Responsible for the payroll function in the Pharmacy Department, including monitoring compliance to the salary budget.
- Assists with meeting financial and budgetary goals; and with policy and procedure development, implementation, review and revision.
- Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
- Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy.
- Minimum of 3 or more years of experience in a sterile processing pharmacy.
- Minimum of 2 years in a supervisory position.
- Working knowledge of New Jersey drug laws
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
- Master's degree or a Pharm.D.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
- Active NJ Registered Pharmacist License in good standing.
Licenses and Certifications Preferred:
- Board certification in Oncology or Sterile Compounding

Compensation
Starting at $153,732.80 Annually
HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency for our team members. The posted rate of pay in this job posting is a reasonable good faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role at the time of posting in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act and does not reflect the full value of our market-competitive total rewards package.

Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
