Responsibilities

The Resource Nurse is responsible for rounding and responding to calls in all adult units to provide urgent/emergent nursing interventions.

 

The Resource Nurse will assess, evaluate and initiate approved interventions for patients at risk for/or exhibiting a change in condition.  He/she will utilize critical thinking and problem solving skills to recognize early signs and symptoms of clinical deterioration and act accordingly to insure optimal outcomes.  The Resource Nurse uses effective communication skills to collaborate with team members, physicians and nursing staff to provide quality patient care consistent with the philosophy and objectives of the organization.  They respond to calls for rapid response, STEMI, Code Blue, Code Stroke and Targeted Temperature Management.  The Resource Nurse participates in data collection for quality improvement and core measure activities and act as a resource, mentor and role model for nursing staff, such as mock code training.  The Resource Nurse maintains all critical care competencies. 

Essential Functions:

  • Independently use the nursing process to safely, therapeutically and efficiently care for patients
  • Throughout the shift will surveil Early Warning Score Service Provider Report to target at risk patients and will round, assess, provide recommendations, communicate with care team and assist with interventions.
  • Responds to the bedside of patients with suspected signs/symptoms of physiologic instability. Assume a leadership role, directing and assisting team members in setting priorities for patient care.
  • Assesses and stabilizes patient who is clinically deteriorating in collaboration with the care team. Provides care until patient is stable or is transferred to a higher level of care. 
  • Maintains a presence post call, follows up with care team on patient status, facilitates debriefing, and provides education and mentoring.
  • Serves as a role model for effective clinical management of patients experiencing decline to foster positive outcomes.
  • Utilizes broad knowledge base to effectively triage multiple requests for patient assistance.
  • Data collection including daily activity log, event log, chart review, Rapid Response and Code Blue dashboards

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing, current registered Nurse license in the State of New Jersey
  • Minimum of two years of critical care experience required
  • National Nursing Certification required, CCRN preferred. CCRN exam required within two years of start date.
  • BLS required, ACLS required, completion of annual critical care competencies
  • Proficiency in targeted critical care skills including management of Rapid Response, STEMI, Code Blue, Code Stroke and Targeted Temperature Management (TTM).
  • Exhibits self-direction and use of a broad knowledge base, critical thinking, delegation, problem solving skills and protocol development
  • Exceptional verbal and non-verbal, written, and listening skills. Ability to adapt communication style to suit different audiences and function in a collaborative role.
  • Organizational skills – ability to handle multiple complex situations simultaneously
  • Computer competency , Word, Excel and protocol development

Compensation
Starting at $44.24 Hourly

The posted rate of pay in this job posting is a reasonable good faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role at the time of posting in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act and does not reflect the full value of our market-competitive total rewards package.

Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
