To supervise, organize, and coordinate the clinical and technical aspects of all Respiratory services rendered on the shift to insure the delivery of quality therapeutic services.  Also, to assure that all policies and procedures are followed as set forth by the Medical Center and Department Policy and Procedure Manuals.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Supervisor of Respiratory Therapy at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

 

1. Provide clinical and technical supervision and expertise to staff members on each shift.
2. Regularly reviews all staff performance via daily auditing and/or daily rounding to assure adherence to department policies and procedures.
3. In Partnership with Respiratory Manager, Counsels staff members, administers and documents appropriate disciplinary actions or coaching opportunities in partnership when policy and procedures are not followed.
4. Coordinates yearly competencies in partnership with education resources along with department to ensure timely completion before the given deadline.
5. Performs therapeutic procedures consistent with the duties and responsibilities of ¿Respiratory Therapist: as necessary or when requested.
6. Assures that all equipment not in use is returned to the department and is cleaned and processed according to department protocol.
7. Oversee the function of all supply ordering, stocking, and inventory activities
8. Coordinates the activities of the staff to ensure the prompt delivery of quality patient care.
9. Assists Manager with completion of employee evaluations annually according to the performance management process.
10. Provides employees with the opportunity for regular and ongoing coaching sessions.
11. Assures the manifold systems throughout the hospital are checked once per week and changed when necessary.
12. Coordinates department schedule including managing team member requests for time off
13. Ensures adequate coverage for all patient care areas and distributes patient care responsibilities to staff according to patient acuity and operational need.
14. Performs Service Recovery to ensure patient/customer satisfaction when necessary.
15. Participates in a rotational supervisory on-call system to assure adequate staffing and departmental functioning. 
16. Daily monitoring of end of shift report to ensure a quality patient report and to reduce incidental overtime.
17. Assists the Manager of Respiratory Care in assuring clinical compliance with national and local fire, safety, state, and JCAHO standards relating to the department by a periodic review of procedures and practices. 
18. Adheres to the standards identified in the Organizational and Managerial Competencies.
19. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
20. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

1. Associates degree in Applied Sciences.
2. Graduate of an AMA accredited Respiratory Care program.
3. Minimum of 2 years as a staff Respiratory therapist.

 

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

1. Minimum of one year supervisor or manager experience.
2. Bachelors or Master's degree from an accredited university.


Licenses and Certifications Required:

1. Licensed by the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs Department.
2. Registered Respiratory Therapist Credentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
3. AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
