Overview

The Supervisor of Neurosurgery APP (Physician Assistant/Nurse Practittioner) provides direct patient care, consultation, performs education research activities, and clinical supervision. The supervisor plays an integral role in oversight of the neurosurgery team inclusive of training and scheduling to support the Neurosurgery Department.

Minimal 3-5 years demonstrated experience working with Neurosurgery patients or in a related setting.

Responsibilities

1. Responsible for the coordination and scheduling of APPs in the department to maintain proper coverage, also for allowing for PTO and CME.
2. Responsible for initial payroll data input to be approved by the Manager.
3. Assist the manager to determine internal processes of shift assignments.
4. Track, analyze, and report on relevant data and metrics as needed and/or requested.
5. Develop, recommend and/or implement actions or process improvements as appropriate in collaboration with the Manager.

6. Assist in the development and/or management of budget for assigned area, in collaboration with Manager and Chair. Regularly monitors relevant key financial indicators and performance metrics, modifying business activities where needed in response to changing financial situations.

7. Supervise the recruitment, development, coaching, and counseling of team members, in collaboration with the Manager

8. Provide performance evaluations/reviews input of the APP staff to the Manager, provide input for evaluations as requested on other staff members.

9. Creates and sustains an environment that fosters team member engagement.

10. Establishes clear objectives tied to department and/or organizational strategic goals.

11. Possessing and monitoring clinical practice and critical thinking to accurately reflect code of ethics, the New Jersey Department of Health requirements, JCAHO, and institutional policies and procedures which provides for effective and safe patient/customer outcomes. 12. Promotes, monitors, and facilitates            patient teaching and support programs for patients/families in area of expertise.

13. Influences the activities of an individual or group toward goal setting and achievement by serving as a role model by demonstrating current trends in patient care management.

14. Works with the manager and/or director to establish clear objectives tied to the department and/or organizational strategic goals.

15. Responsible for continuing education and expanding job knowledge.

16. Demonstrates an ability to function as an expert clinical resource, providing professional development opportunities for a new team member,

17. Mentor Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner students.

18. Participates in the development and implementation of continuing education and maintains documentation.

19. Develops personal plans of development in the area of clinical expertise, with APPs on goals and objectives for individual growth.

20. Utilizes principles of communication and change of theory to establish positive working relationships with physicians, APPs, nursing, administrative and medical center departments to accomplish the goals of Hackensack Meridian Health Network.

21. Identifies areas requiring clinical study for performance improvement.

22. Promotes and monitors referrals from all units of the hospital, and collaborates with physicians, APPs, nurses and other members of the health care team in patient care planning.

23. Demonstrates resource capability within the institution through the use of other disciplines.

24. Promotes, monitors, and facilitates patient teaching and support programs for patients/families in area of expertise.

25. Promotes continuity of patient care within the institution from admittance to discharge, by working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team.

26. Regularly incorporates new scientific findings into educational programs and/or clinical practice units in areas of expertise.

27. Actively participates in the research process and utilizes the information to further enhance the quality of patient care.

28. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

29. Other duties and/or projects as assigned by the manager or director.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
1. Masters Degree required
2. Minimal 3-5 years demonstrated experience working with Neurosurgery patients or in a related setting.
3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
4. Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
1. Supervisor experience
2. Experience with Google Platform of Docs, Sheets, Slides, Zoom
3. Experience with Epic Documentation Platform

Licenses and Certifications Required:
1. NJ state licensure as an Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
2. NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants) certification or
    Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner certification or equivalent (AG-ACNP) (American Nurse Credentialing Center)
   or AACN (American Association of Critical-Care Nurses).
3. Controlled Drug Substances (CDS) certification.
4. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) license.
5. RNFA (Registered Nurse First Assistant) certification for APN candidates.

Licenses and Certifications Preferred:
1. ENLS (Emergency Neurological Life Support)
2. FCCS (Fundamentals of Critical Care Support)
3. SCRN (Stroke Certified Registered Nurse)

Compensation
Minimum rate of $148,262.40 Annually

  • Internal Equity: Compensation is determined in a manner consistent with compensation ranges for similar roles within the organization.
  • Budget and Grant Funding: Departmental budgets and any grant funding associated with the job position may impact the pay that can be offered.

Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
