Overview

Full Time Nurse Practitioner position for Inpatient Infectious Disease at Jersey Shore UMC and our HIV clinic, Hope Tower outpatient possible.

Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) will reflect the mission, vision and values of Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH). They will be an integral part of the Infectious Diseases  team.  The NP will hold a minimum of a Master’s degree and fulfill all the requirements and education to maintain active board certification, as well as the agreed upon terms of employment. Significant inpatient experience will be necessary to be successful in this position.  Prior experience in other consultative services would be a plus. 

The APN will become knowledgeable in acute infectious diseases management and should possess strong clinical and critical thinking skills, as well as exceptional communication skills.   The ID APN will be trained by board certified ID physicians who are very strong in teaching.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Infectious diseases consultations and followups
  • Perform ID consults in conjunction with ID physician by reviewing chart, interviewing, examining patient, reviewing labs and imaging data and determining best antimicrobial treatment. APN will spend most time seeing followups and adjust treatment plan as necessary in conjunction with ID physician.
  • Attend noon rounds so patient management can be discussed.
  • Diagnostic Testing:
    • Initiate appropriate laboratory tests and diagnostic test/procedures in collaboration with attending physician, as appropriate, according to regulation and scope of practice.
    • Evaluation and interpretation of resulting lab results and diagnostic studies.
  • Treatment:
    • Help determine the best antimicrobial treatment for the patient with Attending ID physician.
    • Narrow antibiotic when possible
    • Convert IV to po antimicrobial if possible
    • Help determine correct length of treatment after discussion with attending consultant and ID pharmacist

 

Priority will be placed on supporting inpatient consult service. NP will predominantly be seeing less complex follow ups. ICU, BMT/Leukemic, transplant patients will be seen by the ID attending/resident/fellow
Weekend coverage will be necessary to assist the oncall ID attending on handling the service of 40-70.
APN will gradually have outpatient Hope tower office hours for less complex hospital followups, STI, HIV, Hep C, travel medicine after NP has developed inpatient skills first.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

1. Graduate of an NLN/AACN accredited program in nursing

2. Masters Degree

3. Maintains clinical competencies through participating in continuing educational programs (contact hours per years), and clinical practice as mandated by Board of Nursing and national certification body.

4. Experience in relevant patient care setting or as regulations dictate.

 

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

1. Masters Prepared Advanced Practice Nurse

2. Minimum of 3 years professional experience.

3. Strong organizational and computer skills

4. Effective verbal and written communication skills

5. Emotional intelligence, critical thinking and effective interpersonal skills

6. Ability to adapt to multiple and changing priorities

7. Valid Drivers license

 

Licenses and Certifications Required:

1. NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License.

2. Advanced Practice Nurse Cetification (w/ Master's Degree).

3. AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.

 

Licenses and Certifications Preferred:

1. CPR certification
