The Clinical Pharmacy Manager is responsible for leading, developing, and evaluating clinical pharmacy programs under the direction of the site pharmacy director. This includes oversight of clinical specialists, decentralized clinical staff, and residency programs. This position works collaboratively with both site and network pharmacy leadership teams in support of formulary management, pharmacoeconomic initiatives, and staff development. This position will ensure safe, effective, and cost-conscious medication therapy practices across the institution, aligning pharmacy services with organizational priorities, evidence-based standards, defined policies and procedures, and all applicable legal requirements.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Clinical Pharmacy Manager at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
Clinical Leadership & Oversight
1. Directs the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of clinical pharmacy services across inpatient and specialty services lines.
2. Oversees formulary management, development of treatment guidelines, therapeutic interchanges, and clinical pathways.
3. Reviews and ensures medication use is evidence-based, safe, rational, and cost-effective in collaboration with medical staff and network leadership.
4. Helps mitigate drug shortages
5. Serves as a subject matter expert for complex clinical consultations and decision support regarding therapeutic options, dosing, and interactions.
6. Maintains an appropriate clinical knowledge base to be able to support clinical rounds as needed.
7. Serves as the key pharmacy resource and content expert for the Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee and collaborates with clinical pharmacy specialists on topics within their practice areas
8. Represents JSUMC at various hospital and network-level committees
Pharmacy Program Development
9. Leads development and execution of clinical pharmacy metrics to measure impact, cost avoidance, as well as clinical and quality outcomes.
10. Collaborates with research and academic teams to ensure continuity of care and integration of research activities on the campus.
11. Champions clinical staff development, including competency assessments, residency program leadership, preceptorship, and peer mentoring.
12. Participates in the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee through agenda preparation, literature review, and formulary decision support.
13. Supports the creation, optimization, and maintenance of order sets and clinical decision support.
Operational & Organization Contributions
14. Assists the Director of Pharmacy in strategic planning, budgeting, regulatory compliance, and accreditation preparation.
15. Serves as a liaison with nursing, physicians, DTS, and other hospital departments to improve medication-related safety and quality.
16. Contributes to hospital and network-level committees on medication-related topics.
17. Leads or supports critical initiatives on medication-related topics
18. Assists with clinical staff scheduling, staffing as needed, and leadership coverage.
19. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
20. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
1. Pharmacy degree (BS or PharmD) from an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy
2. Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Pharmacist in a Hospital setting and 2 years of supervisory experience.
3. Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office platforms
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
5. Requires comprehensive knowledge of pharmacology, therapeutics, pharmacokinetics, drug information, and the medication use process.
6. Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY-1 Residency or equivalent experience.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
1. Experience in a leadership role at a large academic medical center and/or health system
2. Clinical practice experience with a wide variety of ages, disease states, and acuity
3. Inpatient pharmacy operations experience and understanding
4. Completion of a PGY-2 residency
5. Experience with clinical decision support systems and electronic health record system management (e.g., build requests, therapy/treatment plan creation, clinical decision support)
Licenses and Certifications Required:
1. Current Pharmacist license in good standing in New Jersey or eligible for licensure
Licenses and Certifications Preferred:
1. Board certification in pharmacotherapy specialty

Compensation
Starting at $146,057.60 Annually
HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency for our team members. The posted rate of pay in this job posting is a reasonable good faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role at the time of posting in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act and does not reflect the full value of our market-competitive total rewards package.

- Geographic Location: Cost of living and market rates for the specific location.
- Internal Equity: Compensation is determined in a manner consistent with compensation ranges for similar roles within the organization.
- Budget and Grant Funding: Departmental budgets and any grant funding associated with the job position may impact the pay that can be offered.
Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
