The Vice President, Team Health & HMH Works (Occupational Health) provides enterprise-wide executive leadership and operational governance for Occupational Health and Medical Screening and Surveillance programs across Hackensack Meridian Health, serving both internal team members and external employer clients. Operating within a physician-executive dyad in partnership with the Team Health Chief Medical Officer, the role is jointly accountable for clinical quality, workforce safety outcomes, regulatory compliance, and strategic execution. The Vice President, Team Health & HMH Works (Occupational Health) reports directly to the Senior Vice President, Team Health / Chief Risk Officer, with a dotted-line relationship to Human Resources and Growth leadership, ensuring alignment across workforce strategy, risk mitigation, and external growth initiatives, while collaborating across clinical, safety, HR, risk, quality, finance, legal, and operational leaders to drive measurable system-wide performance and value.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Vice President, Team Health & HMH Works (Occupational Health) at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

 

Strategic Leadership & Financial Stewardship

1. Establishes and executes a clear strategic vision aligned with HMH's mission, values, and enterprise priorities.

2. Ensures enterprise-wide strategic alignment with Growth, Transformation and Ambulatory leadership as care delivery models, footprints, and service strategies evolve.

3. Develops and oversees multi-year business plans, annual operating budgets, and performance goals for Occupational Health services.

4. Provides monthly, disciplined oversight of operating budgets and approved capital budgets, with accountability for financial performance, cost avoidance initiatives, and revenue generation.

4. Allocates resources across multiple sites and service lines to maximize efficiency, quality, and financial sustainability.

5. Regularly evaluates performance against objectives, implementing course corrections as needed to achieve outcomes.

 

Work-Related Injury Response & Prevention Collaboration

1. Collaborates with the Team Health CMO and the Workplace Injury Prevention Committee (WIPC) to support work-related injury response and prevention efforts, including coordination and implementation of targeted actions, interventions, and prevention initiatives informed by injury data.

2. Maintains operational awareness of work-related injury and illness trends and emerging risks at both the network and divisional levels to anticipate impacts and support timely response.

3. Brings forward observed gaps, challenges, and operational considerations to Safety, Risk, and clinical leadership to support coordinated injury-related responses.

4. Partners with Safety, Risk Management, and operational leaders to support prevention efforts through coordination, operational support, and post-event follow-up.

5. Ensures work-related injury response operations remain aligned with organizational growth, operational changes, and evolving care delivery models.

 

Compliance Excellence & Standards of Practice

1. Leads compliance strategies across all Team Health (Occupational Health) administrative and operational domains, ensuring adherence to OSHA, CDC, state, and federal regulatory requirements related to occupational health and workforce safety.

2. Provides executive oversight of OSHA annual reporting and Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) annual reporting, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and regulatory readiness.

3. Oversees development, implementation, and governance of standard operating procedures (SOPs), policies, and workflows.

4. Partners with clinical leadership to ensure alignment between operational processes and medical standards of care.

5. Ensures audit readiness and coordinates responses to regulatory reviews, inspections, and internal assessments.

 

Operational Infrastructure & Service Delivery

1. Establishes and continuously improves infrastructure, workflows, staffing models, and support structures to ensure high-quality, scalable service delivery.

2. Provides operational and programmatic oversight of Medical Screening and Surveillance programs, Team Health and HMH Works clinics, and external employer services.

3. Oversees multi-site operations, optimizing clinic footprint, scheduling models, and service access.

4. Drives operational efficiency initiatives, including care model redesign, role optimization, and resource utilization.

 

Performance Measurement, Analytics & Value Demonstration

1. Defines and monitors Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) across injury-related outcomes, operations, surveillance, experience, and financial performance.

2. Oversees development and governance of dashboards and analytics in partnership with data and analytics teams.

3. Uses performance data to support accountability, inform decision-making, and articulate operational and financial value delivered to the organization and external clients.

4. Presents performance data and insights to executive leadership, boards, and governance committees.

 

Labor Readiness & Workforce Continuity

1. Participates in enterprise discussions and contingency planning to support onboarding and medical clearance of staff for any anticipated labor disruptions.

2. Partners with HR, Labor Relations, Safety, and Operations to ensure workforce readiness while maintaining regulatory and clinical standards.

 

Governance, Committees & Executive Engagement

1. Serves as the executive Team Health (Occupational Health) representative for injury-related workforce health and operational risk initiatives.

2. Represents Team Health in enterprise planning, transformation, and change initiatives related to occupational health operations and injury-related risk mitigation.

3. Actively participates in and supports relevant governance committees, councils, and workgroups related to occupational health and work-related injury oversight.

4. Provides executive-level briefings and presentations to hospital leadership, HR boards, and system councils.

5. Ensures alignment between Team Health and HMH Works strategies and broader organizational initiatives.

 

Business Development & External Client Growth

1. Leads strategy and execution for growth and retention of external HM Works clients.

2. Oversees employer partnerships, contracts, pricing strategies, and service line development in collaboration with Growth leadership.

3. Identifies and advances new business opportunities aligned with market demand, organizational capabilities, and risk tolerance.

4. Collaborates with finance, legal, and contracting teams to ensure sustainable and compliant growth.

 

Team Engagement, Development & Recognition

1. Leads team engagement and culture-building efforts, including oversight of internal communications (newsletter), retreats, recognition programs, professional development, and training initiatives.

2. Oversees submission and management of internal and external awards and recognitions to highlight program excellence and innovation.

3. Promotes leadership development, succession planning, and workforce capability building across

 

Team Health and HMH Works. Research, Innovation & Advancement of Practice

1. Partners with the CMO to establish and lead an evidence-informed best-practice model, translating operational insights into program design and sharing learnings to advance organizational and industry leadership.

2. Incorporates current research, evidence-based practices, and industry benchmarks into Occupational Health and injury-related strategies.

3. Advances digital innovation, automation, and emerging technologies (including analytics and AI-enabled solutions).

4. Promotes a culture of continuous improvement, learning, and innovation across the enterprise.

 

Other

1. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

1. Master's degree in Nursing, Business, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or a related field required; candidates actively enrolled in a master's program may be considered on a case-by-case basis, subject to completion expectations established by organizational leadership.

2. Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare.

3. Strong operational and financial management experience, including budget development and oversight.

4. Advanced analytical and data-driven decision-making capabilities, including the ability to define, monitor, and act on key performance indicators (KPIs).

5. Proven ability to develop and present executive-level reports, dashboards, and business cases, and to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights.

6. Experience leading multi-site occupational health or healthcare operations.

7. Strong working knowledge of occupational health and workforce safety regulations (e.g., OSHA, CDC, and applicable state and federal requirements).

8. Experience developing, implementing, and governing policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and workflows.

9. Proven ability to influence and collaborate effectively across executive, clinical, HR, risk, and growth leadership.

10. Demonstrated success leading, developing, and retaining multidisciplinary teams.

11. Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including negotiation and executive presence.

12. Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and crisis-management capabilities.

13. Ability to travel to multiple sites as required.

14. Proficient computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office and Google Suite platforms.

 

Licenses and Certifications Required:

1. NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License.

2. National certification in Occupational Health or a related specialty.

Compensation
Minimum rate of $209,393.60 Annually

HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency for our team members. The posted rate of pay in this job posting is a reasonable good faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role at the time of posting in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act and does not reflect the full value of our market-competitive total rewards package.

Internal Equity: Compensation is determined in a manner consistent with compensation ranges for similar roles within the organization. Budget and Grant Funding: Departmental budgets and any grant funding associated with the job position may impact the pay that can be offered. Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
