All School Safety Security Officers will assume responsibility for the safety and well-being of Students, Team Members, visitors and HMH property. These responsibilities include but are not limited to patrols, access control, surveillance, dispatching, supervision of students, assistance with crisis interventions including hands on, conflict resolution and behavior management.  Officers will complete OneLink and incident reports as directed by their leader. These responsibilities include continuous surveillance, reporting and documenting all incidents and remaining sensitive to the need for delivery of quality guest services and assistance to all persons present at the facilities.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a School Safety Security Officer at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

 

1. Provides information and assistance in a courteous, professional manner. Ability to multitask and manage time accordingly.
2. Completes radio checks, provides, and facilitates all questions or concerns according to the Senior Officer or Manager on duty.
3. Ability to handle computer programs hosted in the dispatch center including but not limited to Student/ Team Member ID badges, camera system, fire system, and electronic parking management system.
4. Provide continuous coverage of the school controlling access to the area and assisting students, team members, and visitors as necessary. Challenge unauthorized persons in a professional and courteous manner, issue passes as appropriate while enforcing policies and procedures of the school/campus.
5. Obtain information pertaining to incidents at the school and campus and generate an incident report/OneLink.
6. Responds to calls and codes including fire alarms and drills. Continuous patrols school and campus to observe and take corrective action regarding violations and detrimental conditions related to security and safety.
7. Controls visitor, student and team member access, check visitor's passes and identification. Expedites and ensures safe flow of traffic through all parking lots.
8. Provides escorts to Students and Team Members vehicles as requested within jurisdiction as directed by the leader.
9. Reports for duty in a clean and complete issued uniform, including photo identification badge.
10. Completes and submits a daily activity log at completion of tour of duty.
11. Maintains all departmental security equipment in good operating condition and reports all damage immediately to supervisor/school Security Leader.
12. Always keep school leaders and Senior Officer informed of all matters pertinent to safety and security conditions.
13. Assists with students as directed by school leadership including but not limited to arrival, departure, lunch, instructional period, extra curricular activities, events and field trips.  Escorts students as instructed by school leadership.
14. Assists school staff with implementing crisis management plans, evaluation of behavioral intervention plans, reporting behavioral observations and review of pertinent behavioral and academic data. Gather and maintain data pertinent to student behavior including ratings, documentation of critical incidents, attendance, property damage.
15. Knowledgeable and abides by all School and campus Code of Conduct regulations and departmental procedures and policies including parking regulations.
16. Will complete all in-service training, lectures and programs as assigned.
17. Attend all mandatory meetings (departmental or special) staff meetings as scheduled including safety huddles.
18. Maintains positive and appropriate relationships with students per policy and code of conduct.
19. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
20. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
21. Must be able to stand and walk for a long period of time, minimum of 8 hrs a day. Lift a minimum of 100 lbs., push and pull a minimum of 100 lbs. Ability to handle disorderly and/or abusive persons.
22. Subject to all weather conditions; will be required to work in all areas of the school/campus, including parking lots, grounds and outer buildings as requested.
23. Will be required to perform duties as assigned by Management and required to carry out emergency duties when necessary.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

1. High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
2. Must be able to stand and walk for a long period of time, 8-12 hrs a day and lift a minimum of 100 lbs., push and pull a minimum of 100 lbs. Ability to ascend/descend 2-10 flight stairs.  Ability to handle disorderly and/or abusive patients and visitors. This may include behavioral patients and patients brought into the Emergency Trauma Department under arrest.
3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
4. Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

 

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

1. 2 years of college credits.
2. Previous experience as Security Officer or Law Enforcement experience.
3. Previous dispatching experience desired.

 

Licenses and Certifications Required:

1. Possession of a valid driver's license.
2. Full scale State, County, Federal, and License Check will be conducted every other year.

Compensation
Starting at $20.32 Hourly

  • Internal Equity: Compensation is determined in a manner consistent with compensation ranges for similar roles within the organization.
  • Budget and Grant Funding: Departmental budgets and any grant funding associated with the job position may impact the pay that can be offered.

Some jobs may also be eligible for performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions not reflected in the starting rate. Certain positions may also be eligible for shift differentials for work performed on evening, night, or weekend shifts.
