The Credentialing Coordinator is responsible for credentialing and re-credentialing of the Medical Staff for Carrier Clinic in accordance with Joint Commission Standards, Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations and Policies and Procedures.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Credentialing Coordinator at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

 

  • Responds timely to all requests for applications for medical staff membership and consultants for all new Licensed Independent Practitioner's LIP's, physicians, and allied health professionals for Carrier Clinic.
  • Verifies licensure, education, training, background investigations, and other requirements as designated by policy and bylaws.
  • Reviews completed application file for accuracy and identifies problem areas to be brought to the attention of the requestor and/or manager.
  • Works closely with the Human Resources, Employee Health and Information Systems Department to onboard new hires and communicates the status of all applications timely including the orientation and shadowing schedule.
  • Keeps accurate and timely tracking of the credentialing database.
  • Identifies and obtains current verification of expiring documents.
  • Maintains an organized, confidential, timely, accurate, and complete file for all medical staff members including delineation of privileges, licenses, training, references, claim history reports, work history verifications, board certifications and all others as required by policy and bylaws.
  • Maintains and updates all collaborative agreements with Allied Health Professionals and their collaborating physicians.
  • Sends out timely communication for reappointments and follows up appropriately, alerting the manager of any issues.
  • Communicates any changes in Medical Staff statuses timely to the insurance company.
  • Compiles appointment information submitted to the Executive Committee, Medical Staff Meetings and the Board of Trustees for timely review.
  • Maintains confidentiality up to date and accurate tracking database on all LIP's for all Professional Practice Evaluations "PPE" including information from other departments and communicates this information and/or prepares reports from this information as needed. 
  • Maintains database of Continued Medical Education "CME" classes including submitting any requests for preapproval and communicating payments with Finance.
  • Assists Chief Medical Officer in recruitment and retention of Medical Staff members including advertising, working with Human Resources, Finance and other departments.
  • Coordinates meetings, interviews, and orientations with appropriate departments/staff.
  • Educate Medical Staff leadership regarding new trends and stay abreast of industry developments.
  • Assists in all regulatory surveys and all preparations.
  • Represents Medical Staff in other committees, as needed.
  • Performs daily upload of LIP charges from excel file.
  • Assists in daily assignments to LIP's with Access staff.
  • Provides back up to Medical Staff Office Coordinator, as needed.
  • Provides back up to Court Clerk, as needed.
  • Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of the work area.
  • Assists other staff with training when needed.
  • Attends departmental meetings and participates in hospital mandated in-services.
  • Participates in the quality improvement process of Carrier and East Mountain organizations.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
  • Minimum of 3 years secretarial experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years Medical Staff experience.
  • Utilizes effective time and project management skills to maximize productivity, meet project deadlines, and accomplish goals.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to own work schedule by adhering to standards such as attendance, punctuality, and observing correct time frames.
  • Demonstrates reliability, tactfulness, honesty, and discretion and a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to use independent judgment.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail and is able to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, exemplary organizational skills, and excellent customer service skills.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Bachelor's Degree.

Licenses and Certifications Preferred:

  • National Association of Medical Staff Services certification.
