As a security officer, your presence is often the first impression that patients, their families, visitors, and employees have of Hackensack Meridian Health every day. By acting in a professional and empathetic manner, often in the face of medical emergencies, your contributions will be vital to the work we do for the community. You will assume responsibility for the safety and well-being of patients, team members, physicians, visitors and Medical Center property. Responsibilities
- Provide service or assistance to all in need as time, staffing and regulations permit. Courteously escorts visitors, patients and/or employees to and from parking areas in a timely manner. Courteously responds to any inquiries made by patients, visitors or personnel displaying positive interpersonal skills.
- When assigned to a fixed Post, follows the procedures set out in Post Orders. Familiarizes him/herself with Post Orders and can stand all Posts. Inspects incoming or outgoing parcels as necessary to prevent theft of Medical Center property. Greets incoming patients, family members, employees and/or visitors and offers assistance. Directs patients and visitors to proper area or personnel. Controls flow of patient visiting according to policy. Maintains crowd control at all entrance/waiting area Posts.
- When assigned to rove (Patrol) the Medical Center, remains constantly alert to any and all activities which violate rules or regulations of the Medical Center, taking the necessary action to prevent or stop these infractions. Thoroughly patrols buildings and grounds and reports all irregularities, safety hazards and security concerns to the O.I.C. Inspects doors, windows and locks to determine levels of security. Courteously questions all persons on premises who are not authorized for access. Demonstrates good judgment in routing appropriately, or detaining, all unauthorized persons. Demonstrates good judgment in responding to emergency calls for assistance to control disorderly conduct or combative patients.
- Thoroughly investigates incidents of unusual circumstances as assigned by the O.I.C. and reports all incidents via a properly completed incident report detailing any investigation of suspicious persons, thefts, fires, safety hazards, or other investigations. Writes accurate incident reports and documents investigatory steps and results. Only uses objective data and clear, concise language in reports. Demonstrates an ability to interview a wide variety of individuals in a courteous and unbiased manner.
- Is knowledgeable of and enforces all rules, regulations, policies and/or procedures relative to Security. Complies with all Medical Center and Departmental policies and procedures.
- Responds to all Codes, disasters, drills, alarms and fires as directed by the O.I.C. and takes the appropriate action.
- Understands and demonstrates good judgment while following the proper guidelines relative to the use of force when restraining individuals who present a danger to themselves or others.
- Properly maintains and accounts for all issued uniforms and equipment. Thoroughly inspects all equipment in accordance with departmental policy. Reports for duty in a complete uniform of the day. Uniforms are kept clean and neat.
- Makes automobile transports and/or tours as assigned by the O.I.C. Posts assigned automobile as necessary. Observes all motor vehicle laws while operating Medical Center vehicles.
- Demonstrates good judgment, competency and maintains confidentiality while using electronic security equipment
- (CCTV, alarms, radios, computers, etc.).
- Extends courtesy and consideration for others in all interpersonal relationships, including telephone contacts.
- Understands and demonstrates good judgment while following the proper guidelines relative to the use of force when restraining individuals who present a danger to themselves or others.
- Observes all motor vehicle laws while operating Medical Center vehicles.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Must be a high school graduate or GED.
- Must be able to read and write English.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
- Minimum of two years of college credits.
- Previous experience as Security Officer or Law Enforcement experience.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
- Valid Driver's License from a USA state.
- There will be bi-yearly background checks for the following: a. Full scale State, County, Federal, and License Check will be conducted every other year.
