The X Ray Technologist is responsible for diagnostic procedures under the guidance of the Radiologist both within the department, in the Emergency Room and in portable locations. Our complete spectrum of Radiology services will allow you to apply your skills in multiple settings while building your career all within New Jersey’s premier healthcare system.

Provides cat scan images of a specified body part for medical interpretation. Demonstrates the ability to provide quality patient care, interact with co-workers, supervisors, physicians, visitors and other personnel in a manner that is supportive and positive at all times. Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics. Provides appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure.


A Day in the Life of a CAT Scan Technologist at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Possesses cross-sectional knowledge of anatomy and is able to differentiate types of pathology to enable proper performance in Cat Scan exams.
  • Responsible for obtaining cat scan images and proper use of equipment
  • Communicates technical findings of each exam with radiologist.
  • Sets up equipment and assists in performance of special cat scan procedures such as biopsies, etc., and establishes a sterile field for these procedures.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of Picture, Archiving and Communication System (PACS).
  • Ensures all images are labeled correctly.
  • Monitors RIS & PACS systems to expedite performance and interpretation of patient examinations.
  • Cleans and maintains all equipment in conjunction with cat scan procedures.
  • Perform evaluation of imaging equipment and instrumentation for quality control, minor troubleshooting and reports findings to appropriate personnel
  • Provides competent assessment, treatment and/or care to patients appropriate for the individualized and developmental needs for the ages of those patients served. IV.


  • Maintains a clean, safe work environment and observes safety procedures.
  • Assists in the containment of the medical center's costs through the appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment.
  • Monitors and resolves minor technical problems related to equipment
  • Maintains professional growth and development through professional affiliations to maintain certification/licensure.
  • Participates in the department's performance improvement efforts.
  • Performs other duties as expected.
  • Performs all imaging procedures in a reasonable time frame.


Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • High school graduate and graduation from a recognized school of Radiologic Technology.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Diagnostic Radiography License.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certification.
