Overview

The Center for Discovery and Innovation (CDI), located 8 miles outside New York City, was established by Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) as an academic basic and translational research enterprise to rapidly translate science innovation to the clinic to improve outcomes for patients with cancer, infectious diseases, autoimmune disease and other acute and chronic diseases. The CDI has grown rapidly since its origins in 2019, and now has 18 labs, 150 scientists and support personnel, who are supported by more than 85 grants and contracts including 22 National Institutes of Health (NIH) prime grants, as well as grants from the Gates Foundation, Department of Defense (DoD), Pharma and Biotech. Areas of expertise include genomics, epigenetics, drug resistance, stem cell biology, drug discovery, diagnostics and biomarker development, and pharmacology.

The Antibacterial Drug Discovery Research Technician will have a strong interest in bacterial infectious diseases. This role will perform in vitro experiments with bacterial cell cultures. This role is expected to understand the project, execute experimental procedures, troubleshoot problems and identify new techniques to successfully advance the research project. This role will participate in the preparation of data for progress reports and internal project reviews. This role is anticipated to be enthusiastic and have a team-oriented mindset.The Rsch Tech Antibact Drug Disc will have a strong interest in bacterial infectious diseases. Responsibilities

A day in the life of an Antibacterial Drug Discovery Research Technician at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Performs general laboratory functions.
  • Maintains and manipulate bacterial cell lines.
  • Tests drug discovery compounds in a range of in vitro assays.
  • Assists an Research Associate in designing and conducting mycobacteriology experiments.
  • Performs data analysis and interpretation.
  • Presents results in internal project reviews.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • BSc in Microbiology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biological/Biomolecular sciences, or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • 1 year of experience handling cell cultures.
  • Organizational skills and problem-solving skills
  • Good analytical and communication skills.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • MSc in Microbiology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biological/Biomolecular sciences, or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Experience working in a BSL2 lab facility.
  • Experience with compound management and profiling.
  • Experience in MIC determinations.
