Overview

The Zimmerman lab is recruiting a Research Technician, Analytical Chemistry who will use in vitro assays and chromatographic separation coupled to mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS) to enable drug metabolism and pharmacokinetic (DMPK) research studies.  The Zimmerman lab at the Center for Discovery and Innovation (CDI) uses state-of-the-art instrumentation and techniques to study DMPK properties of pre-clinical and clinical anti-infective drug candidates. Our extensive knowledge of DMPK drug profiling and the state of the art mass spectrometry platform consisting of AB Sciex and High Resolution Thermo Orbitrap based mass spectrometry are used to support an array of drug discovery programs of both academic and pharmaceutical origins.  Additionally, our novel laser capture microdissection technique enables microscopic spatial quantitation of drugs in hard-to-treat sites of infection that were previously too minute to profile for drug distribution. The quantitative results of this technique are used to drive the design of new drug regimens for treatment of multi-drug resistant tuberculosis in phase 3 clinical trials. The mass spectrometry facility at CDI is also a core resource for the Georgetown University National Cancer Institute-designated Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center (LCCC).
The Center for Discovery and Innovation (CDI), was established by Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) as an academic basic and translational research enterprise to rapidly translate science innovation to the clinic to improve outcomes for patients with cancer, infectious diseases, autoimmune disease and other acute and chronic diseases.  The CDI has grown rapidly since its origins in 2019, and now has 18 labs, 150 scientists and support personnel, who are supported by more than 85 grants and contracts. Areas of expertise include genomics, epigenetics, drug resistance, stem cell biology, drug discovery, diagnostics and biomarker development, and pharmacology.
