How have you impacted someone's life today? At Hackensack Meridian Health our teams are focused on changing the lives of our patients by providing the highest level of care each and every day. From our hospitals, rehab centers and occupational health teams to our long-term care centers and at-home care capabilities, our complete spectrum of services will allow you to apply your skills in multiple settings while building your career, all within New Jersey's premier healthcare system.

The Postdoc Rsch Fllw, NeuroBio will work under the guidance of Dr. Vogel studying pediatric neuro-oncology, focusing on patient samples, translational PDX murine models and 3D organoid models of rare pediatric central nervous system (CNS) tumors. The research will seek to understand mechanisms that lead to tumor pathogenesis and test novel therapeutic approaches. The research carried out in our lab is closely partnered with patient treatment and the insights gained from the work will be translated into clinical approach and treatment strategies for the developing CNS (For details see Nature Medicine 18, 1797–1804 (2012)). Our lab employs a number of mouse genetic models with in vivo and in vitro systems to study tumorigenesis. These include novel subcellular imaging techniques, molecular/cellular neurobiology, protein biochemistry, genetic, and pharmacological methods. Our lab has a strong interest in translational neuroscience research and is focused on developing novel medical therapies in our models.

A day in the life of Postdoctoral Research Fellow, NeuroBio at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

Animal handling:

  1. PCR Genotyping mice strains, mouse colony management by setting up timed breeding for mice pups, and breeders.
  2. Orthotopic implantation of patient derived tumor cells, autopsies, micro-dissection of brain from embryo and adult mice at varying stage of neuro-development, collecting fluids, therapeutic treatment via injections.

Neuronal cell culture and maintenance.

Proficiency in in vitro and in vivo techniques, including, imaging (bioluminescence, fluorescence, isotopes), histology, PCR, molecular assays, and other basic laboratory techniques.

Lab maintenance, upkeep with making solutions, reagents, PCR primers, and ordering equipment.

Perform data analysis and interpretation to interface with partners in industry to shape clinical approach and translated treatment to patients

Present results in internal and external research forums such as Gordon Research Conference, Society for Neuroscience, Society for Neuro-Oncology. Presentations will be in the format of posters and talks with expectation of manuscript preparation.

Participate in grant and manuscript writing, as appropriate.
