The Director, Plant Operations is responsible on a 24-hour basis for the maintenance of Hospital facilities and grounds, daily plant operations, functions, and constructions and renovations through the planning, direction and supervision of the Parking, Maintenance and Boiler Plant, Construction, Pavilion and Maintenance Departments.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Director, Plant Operations at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

• Plans, administers and directs a program for the seasonal maintenance of Hospital buildings and grounds, sanitation, equipment, and heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems.
• Coordinates major and emergency repair work, renovations and new construction by assessing needs, approving specifications and contractors while complying with safety regulations and building codes and controlling costs.
• Sets departmental priorities and goals and develops operational budgets.
• Interviews and hires prospective staff and management employees, and oversees completion of annual performance appraisals on staff employees.
• Oversees equipment purchases and reorders as needed.
• Ensures delivery of excellent customer service resulting in positive and improving patient satisfaction scores for department and Medical Center.
• Provides inservice training for departmental employees and other Hospital employees, as necessary, regarding equipment and repairs in an effort to reduce costs.
• Acts as a resource to Administration and other departments on repairs, renovations, space planning, and maintenance programs.
• Initiates and establishes departmental polices and procedures.
• Implements and evaluates Hospital-wide and departmental Preventive Maintenance Program.
• Ensures periodic inspections of all buildings, systems and equipment.
• Coordinates Hospital preparation and response to periodic regulatory inspections of buildings, equipment and systems.
• Ensures compliance with JCAHO, NJDOH, and ADA regulations and guidelines.
• Serves as a member of the safety Committee and other Hospital committees, as needed.
• Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
• Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• Bachelors degree in Engineering or related field.
• Ten (10) years experience in a hospital plant operations/maintenance department.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

• Masters Degree.

Licenses and Certifications Preferred:

• Certifications in Construction and Facilities Management.
