The Cook prepares, cooks, and serves food for consumption by patients, staff & visitors.


  • Prepares and cooks all menu items to order, as assigned, in accordance with food safety guidelines to meet sanitary regulations, as well as following established recipes, and cooking techniques to achieve the quality standards of the department.
  • Determines food requirements, stocks food, utensils and equipment accordingly, and sets up mise en place.
  • Monitors, verifies and documents food temperatures using a thermometer to ensure safe cooking, holding, and serving temperatures.
  • Ensures that all food served meets standards of presentation, taste, quality, temperature, portion control and safety & sanitation.
  • Maintains timeliness of menu preparation and presentation in accordance with service needs.
  • Maintains, organizes and cleans work/service area continually during the shift and especially at end of production. Stores remaining food in accordance with food safety guidelines to maintain safety and sanitation standards, including proper cover, label and date.
  • Maintains refrigerators (clean, stocked for meal service, and leftovers utilized to avoid waste).
  • Reports mechanical deficiencies for repair.
  • Provides relief coverage in all areas of production as needed.
  • Lifts a minimum of 30 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 75 lbs. and stands a minimum of 8 hours a day.
  • Must be able to work various shifts as well as days, weekends and holiday as needed for the operation.
  • To take all necessary steps to ensure maximum security of the kitchen, store and office when on duty.
  • To assist with the cleaning down of the kitchen and premises as per cleaning list and management expectations.
  • To assist the Management to monitor the performance of new staff and provide training and coaching as necessary.
  • To carry out any reasonable request by management or client.
  • Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.


  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-3 years of hotel &/ or restaurant cooking experience.
  • Observed good cooking techniques.
  • Team player.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Associates degree in Culinary Arts preferred.
  • Health facilities cooking experience or health care nutrition knowledge.
  • Food Service Safety and Sanitation Certification such as ServSafe or Prometric within one year of hire.
