Sleep Technologist/ Registered Polysomnographic Tech

The Registered Polysomnographic Tech, of the Institute for Sleep-Wake Disorders, performs PSG, MSLT/MWT, HST, and PAP titrations on patients of all ages (infant to geriatric), under the direction of the Ops Mgr, ISWD.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Registered Polysomnographic Tech at Hackensack Meridian Health can be described as follows:
1. Responsible for reviewing patient data in preparedness for a PSG.
2. Responsible for hooking patient up with electrodes/monitoring equipment needed to records a PSG; and performing pre-PSG equipment calibrations.
3. Monitors patients throughout the PSG, making notations on patient records every half hour.
4. Removes electrodes at the end of the PSG and documents post-PSG findings.
5. Documents dates of completion for each process of interpretation of PSG.
6. Cleans all equipment as indicated by Infection Control.
7. Scores PSG/MSLT/MWT according to the AASM scoring criteria; and forwards all data for interpretation to the reading Physician.
8. Performs inventory on a monthly basis.
9. Collects data for the monthly Performance Improvement reports.
10. Responsible for identifying equipment malfunctions and scheduling proper repair or replacement.
11. Performs the inter-scorer reliability test on a monthly basis.
12. Maintains a neat and clean work environment; cleans all surfaces at the end of their shift.
13. Participates in Journal Club and all staff meetings.
14. Maintains patient charts in proper order; and files in appropriate file.
15. Review Sleep Studies with the Physicians/staff.
16. Performs mask fits and CPAP trials (PAP naps) on patients.
17. Participates in Health fairs.
18. Performs monthly check on Code Cart.
19. Utilizes the Epic hospital system.
20. Assists with the entire Direct Referral process.
21. Assists with the set-up of durable medical equipment on patients.
22. Completes back-ups and typing for interpretation process.
23. Completes mandatory HUMC annual e-Learning.
24. Performs other related tasks as requested by Manager/Administration to maintain department operations.
25. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
26. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
1. High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
3. Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
1. Registered as a Polysomnographic Technologist.
2. New Jersey State License for RPSGT or Respiratory Therapist or Registered Nurse.
3. CPR certified.
Licenses and Certifications Preferred:
1. For a trainee: Registered Polysomnographic Technologist within 12 months of hire.
