The Health Information Coordinators are responsible for assisting their respective supervisors with the coordinating of work activities within the Health Information Department.


A day in the life of a Health Information Coordinator at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Assures compliance with regulatory requirements by assuring completion of records according to JCAHO, State Department of Health and Medical Staff bylaws.
  • Informs clinical directors of physicians in their department with incomplete records and deadline for completion.
  • Prepares Withdrawal of admitting Privileges List.
  • Finalizes Withdrawal of Privileges List in the absence of Supervisor/Manager.
  • Reinstates/Suspends physicians as necessary in SMS/Epic, notifying ancillary departments, coworkers, and supervisors/managers.
  • Coordinates the daily work activities of the analysts.
  • Assists supervisor with bi-weekly payroll activities, and troubleshoots in the event there are discrepancies in staff paychecks and other issues.
  • Assists Physicians with computer issues. Trains Physicians with computer as needed. Calls helpdesk when necessary with computer issues for Physicians and staff.
  • Assists with supervision of the health information evening staff at the direction of the day supervisor. Covers for Supervisor during day shift if needed.
  • Analyzes and Reanalyzes charts for compliance purposes as needed.
  • Keeps suspension list updated in Excel/Epic/SMS. 
  • Maintains Clairvia, schedules updated on a daily basis.
  • Ensures PeopleSoft has no missed punches and correct shifts.
  • Responds to requests and Suspension details on a daily basis with Physicians and HUMC staff.
  • Reports any HIM issues/problems to supervisors and /or managers. 
  • Releases charts for ROI as needed.
  • Performs additional duties such as special projects assigned by supervisors and manager. 
  • Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.


Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Computer literate. 
  • Experience in health care or related field.
  • College course work.
