The Intern handles tasks as assigned in various areas of the organization. This position provides support as needed and gains on the job experience.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Genetics Intern at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Collects required data for New Jersey Department of Health - Genetic Services and Newborn Screening grant. Quarterly summary of all patients seen in Genetics, including their demographic information, specialty type, etc. is required for grant.
  • Manages department log of consults, new patient diagnoses, and newborn screening referrals.
  • Assists in collection of clinical information and performs literature review for department publications.
  • Assists in identifying patients to be enrolled in the birth defects registry.
  • Assists Genetic Counselors and clerical team with administrative tasks (i.e., confirming appointments and case-related follow up, etc.)
  • Works on various projects as needed while gaining working knowledge of Genetics.
  • Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center¿s Organizational Competencies.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor's degree within a related field.
  • College-level understanding of genetics
  • Proficiency in computer skills.
  • Self-starter who is highly motivated and independent.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Team player who will build relationships and gain the confidence of their colleagues.
  • Highest level of integrity, honesty, loyalty and commitment.
  • Superior attention to detail.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Master's degree
