The Tax Manager is responsible for managing tax reporting and compliance within the Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) Network (the 'Network'). Ensures tax returns are completed and accurate to minimize tax obligations. Responsible for tax planning in preparation for future filings. Expected to assist all HMH team members with appropriate HMH tax related questions.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Tax Manager with Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  •  Preparation and timely filing of annual Form 990 `Return of Organization Exempt from Tax' Return(s) for Non-Profit entities (including extensions) and prepare/review presentation(s) for Audit Committee/Board of Trustees for all Network entities. Ensure information is in compliance with IRS regulations and the Hospitals capture the actual value of the cost provided to the community
  •  Preparation and timely filing annual of for-profit and partnership returns (including extensions) Form 1120 Corporate Income Tax return, Form 1065 Partnership returns for the relevant Network entities.
  •  Preparation and timely filing of annual State returns and extensions for for-profit and not-for-profit entities of the Network including but not limited to: CBT-100, CRI-200/300, NJ-1065, etc.
  •  Preparation and timely filing of quarterly/annual reporting requirements for the Network's Foreign entities including but not limited to: Form 720, Form 926, Form 5471, FinCen 114, and to the U.S. Department of Commerce's Bureau of Economic Affairs and Common Reporting Standards (CRS).
  •  Post-issuance compliance for the Network's tax-exempt bonds including but not limited to tracking and monitoring private use.
  •  Annual filing of the Network's property tax reports to Tax Assessors including but not limited to: Initial Statements, Further Statements and Annual Statement of Income and Expenses.
  •  Manages all Federal, State and Local governmental inquiries and audits.
  •  Participates in tax planning initiatives for the Network.
  •  Leads all internal and external audit inquiries for tax-related matters for the Network.
  •  Keeps abreast of changes in tax statutes and regulations as well as determines impact on Network operations.
  •  Ensures appropriate internal controls are in place over accounting for income taxes.
  •  Manage, develop, and mentor staff/managers on projects and assess performance through formal periodic reviews and informal feedback.
  •  Oversees outside consultants/advisors for tax planning/review services.
  •  Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  •  Adheres to HMH's competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  •  Bachelor's level degree in Accounting.
  •  A minimum of 5 or more years of experience in tax.
  •  Strong leadership skills.
  •  Challenge status quo thinking and assumptions.
  •  Ability to make decisions and implement solutions.
  •  Ability to interact effectively with upper level management.
  •  Ability to multitask, detail oriented and organized.
  •  Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in a fast paced and changing environment.
  •  Effective written and verbal communication skills.

 

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  •  Prior healthcare experience.
  •  Prior auditing experience.
  •  Master's in Business Administration (MBA) or Masters in Tax.

 

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  •  Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
