Responsibilities

A day in the life of a House Supervisor at Hackensack Meridian includes:

  • Oversee the clinical and leadership functions of the Medical Center in the absence of unit managers and senior leadership.

  • Assure the provision of safe and effective patient care after hours, on weekends and on holidays.

  • Assessment of all departments to maintain patient flow and assure continuity of care.

  • Report pertinent information to management and administration. 

  • Provide supervision of staff in the delivery of care for patient and serves as a clinical resource.

  • Assume the leadership position for Incident Command until other qualified personnel arrive on-site.

  • Responds to codes and rapid responses, deploys staff, supplies and/or equipment as needed.

  • Effectively communicating unusual occurrences or complaints for follow–up and intervenes immediately as needed.

  • Ensure appropriate use of hospital resources by reviewing all patients admitted to the hospital and evaluating appropriateness of admission using approved criteria.

  • Ensure appropriate patiennt status (inpatient, observation, ambulatory) to assure appropriate placement and bed usage to maximize patient flow.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an approved School of Nursing, BSN or currently enrolled in a Baccalaureate Program
  • NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License
  • At minimum of 5 years recent clinical experience required

  • Demonstrates clinical knowledge and skills. Demonstrates leadership competencies. Demonstrated ability to work independently.

  • Good basic knowledge of the nursing process, standards of care, regulatory requirements and best practices. Maintains computer skills.
