Individual will possess extensive knowledge and experience in vendor negotiations, contract development, and implementation for purchased equipment, supplies, and services. Demonstrate value analysis, expense reduction, and customer service skills in complex, multi-facility, purchasing environment. May have responsibility for acute care and/or physician practices. Ability to assume responsibility for, and guide the efforts of others. Be highly organized, and able to handle multiple projects with aggressive deadlines appropriately.
Commodity Team / Supply Expense Reduction Team: Assigns and distributes work to commodity team members and provides appropriate instruction and direction in the purchase of goods and services. Ensures the timely processing of all work assigned to the commodity team. Ensures the adherence of established purchasing policies and procedures by all team members and assigned departments. In collaboration with department management, identify all appropriate GPO agreements for goods and services utilized by Hackensack Meridian Health and take appropriate action to implement/access these contracts. Within established policies and procedures, works with Hackensack Meridian Health's distributing vendor for product addition, deletion, and availability for assigned commodities. Develops pricing agreements where necessary for products purchased through the vendor. Within established purchasing policies and procedures, reviews, negotiates, and executes all assigned purchase requisitions over $5,000 to include, but not limited to, supply contracts, blanket orders, service agreements, capital equipment, and one time purchases. Works with all appropriate individuals and teams to identify and implement goods and services cost reduction initiatives. In addition, develops and maintains systems to measure progress and report on outcomes. Initiates and chairs appropriate ad hoc teams to address value analysis, contract implementation, and product standardization/utilization initiatives. Insures completion of all initiatives within established targets. Meets regularly with team members to coordinate procurement efforts, address problems and/or issues, provide training, improve service levels, and share information.
Contract Management: Reviews and analyzes supply (product) trends and utilization, and recommends purchasing practice changes to ensure we pay the lowest appropriate cost for all goods and services. Works to identify opportunities for standardization and utilization management. Completes all appropriate pricing analysis, detailed contracts Terms and Conditions comparisons and proactively handles all negotiations. Conducts contract negotiations with vendors. Develops Requests for Proposal (RFP).
Patients & Customers: Includes patient/customer service satisfaction and initiatives, educational and research initiatives, patient confidentiality Liaison to all departments and insures that their procurement or materials needs are met. Serves as primary liaison between vendors, and assigned departments. Ensures commodity team meets or exceeds established customer service expectations and supply chain initiatives. Serves as an appropriate role model by developing respect, confidence, and cooperation within the work environment. Anticipates customers concerns and needs by asking if they need assistance, as required. Responds promptly and follows through to meet customer needs, as required. Maintains composure, good judgment and acceptable work performance under conditions caused by deadlines, workload, situational crisis, opposition or other causes.
Value Analysis: Demonstrates extensive knowledge of value analysis. Provides and communicates options and recommendations. Meets regularly with Purchasing/Materials Management Department leadership to receive direction and/or supervision and to maintain consistent and open communication on workload, progress on projects, problem resolution, exchange of idea, etc. Skilled in written and oral presentations. Verbally presents ideas and opinions in a clear and concise manner. Written communication is clear, concise, and well organized. Stimulates creativity and innovation in the development of new or improved methods. Is accountable for his/her own decisions and actions. Effectively adapts and adjusts to work pressures and difficult situations. Attends and actively participates in staff meetings by sharing appropriate information, identifying process improvements, and promoting a team environment.
