The Recreation Aide is under the supervision of the Director of Recreation. He/she functions as a member of the Recreation Department and is a resource to other therapists within his/her areas of expertise. He/she is responsible for the highest level of services from the Recreation Department.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Recreation Aide at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

 

  • Supports the Recreational Therapist in the assessment of each resident.
  • Provides assistance to all residents in a safe, courteous, and timely manner.
  • Accurately documents program attendance and individual resident interactions.
  • Follows the daily Activities Calendar for residents.
  • Ensures the facility decorations are in good taste and are displayed in a timely manner for holidays.
  • Encourages residents to participate in meaningful activities.
  • Provides room visits for residents unable to participate in group activities.
  • Assists with special events and activities.
  • Educates staff regarding the role and activities of the Recreation Department.
  • Participates in the development and review of policies and practices related to recreation.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information.
  • Maintain full documentation and completes all administrative requirements, as required by the department.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Develops and maintains good working relationships with other staff.
  • Effective communication with other staff, medical personnel, residents and their family/significant others, visitors and outside agencies and referral services.
  • Basic computer skills, including e-mail.
  • Familiarity with CMS (Medicare System

 

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • H.S./GED or equivalent experience
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Long-term care facility experience
  • Prior work experience with geriatric and disabled populations.
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish)
