Reporting directly to the Chief Nursing Officer, this position is accountable for implementing the strategic plan for care delivery systems across the Medical Center, which is fully aligned to the HMH Nursing strategic plan. The Nursing Director for Patient Care assesses, plans, implements, monitors, and evaluates nursing practice and the nursing care delivery system with direct supervision of front-line leaders and staff team members. This person is responsible for executing and advancing the scope of practice, professional standards and care delivery systems as they directly relate to patient care, patient satisfaction and quality and safety outcomes for the Medical Center. The Nursing Director for Patient Care has administrative oversight for assigned patient care units and departments. He/she will work with the departmental managers to ensure excellent clinical, service, financial, quality, and growth outcomes aligned with the HMH nursing strategic plan. He/she will promote compliance with quality and safety initiatives and will foster effective collaborative relationships between units/departments throughout the HMH network. The intent of this job description is to provide a summary of the major duties and responsibilities of this position and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the position.

  • Bachelors (BA/BS/BSN) and Masters (MA/MS/MSN/MBA/MPA) or Bachelors (BA/BS/BSN) and Doctor of Nursing Practice degree (DNP) degree are required.
  • One degree must be in nursing.
  • At least 5 years of progressive leadership in related fields is required
  • Excellent financial management, delegation, and organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with colleagues, personnel, residents, family members, visitors, and the general public; and possess an understanding of people and a sense of accountability, fairness, and consistency
  • Established analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Established coaching skills that inspire team members, leaders, and physicians to execute and comply with network strategies.
  • Capacity to collaborate with diverse populations of team members and physicians to gain consensus and achieve results.
  • Proven writing, public speaking and presentation skills.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • PhD or DNP
  • Experience in labor relations 3. 5 years of clinical experience preferred
  • Proven competence in Microsoft Office Programs (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) or Google Productivity Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides) Licenses and Certifications Required:
  • NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License.
  • National nursing administration certification (Must attain national nursing certification within 1st year of employment.)
